Engineering Environments Lead - (Platform & Environment Strategy)

Location: London, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester
12 months - Inside IR35

Our client, a leading global technology company is looking for an experienced Engineering Environments to lead the transformation of a large-scale engineering environment estate.

This is a senior leadership role focused on driving improvements across environment strategy, operational stability, disaster recovery, automation, self-service capabilities and governance. You''ll work closely with Product Engineering leaders to develop a scalable, resilient and modern environment model supporting development, testing and production services across a complex enterprise landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and deliver the engineering environments strategy.
• Drive improvements in environment stability, availability and performance.
• Lead disaster recovery, resilience and business continuity initiatives.
• Implement automation and self-service capabilities to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Establish governance, standards, ownership models and best practice across the environment estate.
• Work closely with Engineering, Product, Platform and Infrastructure teams to support delivery at scale.
• Champion modern engineering practices including DevOps, SRE and Environment as Code.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Experience Required

• Proven experience leading engineering or enterprise environment functions within a large, complex organisation.
• Strong background in environment strategy, governance and operational management.
• Experience delivering automation, Infrastructure as Code and self-service initiatives.
• Good understanding of cloud platforms, platform engineering and SRE principles.
• Experience driving resilience, disaster recovery and service continuity programmes.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage and influence senior leaders.
• Track record of leading transformation and change across engineering teams and technology estates.

Desirable Skills

• Terraform, Ansible or similar automation tools.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• CI/CD and DevOps tooling.
• Observability and monitoring solutions.
• Environment as Code and modern platform engineering practices.
