Engineer - Interior Door Trim (Contract)
Location: Crewe (Hybrid - minimum 3 days onsite)
Rate: -33.10 per hour PAYE
Contract: ASAP - 31/03/2027 (potential extension)
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday
Core Hours: 09:30-14:30 with flexibility around these hours
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Interior Door Trim Engineer to support the design and development of door trim systems for a luxury automotive OEM. The role will involve taking components from concept through to production, working closely with internal teams and suppliers to deliver high-quality interior trim solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop interior door trim systems and components from concept through to production.
- Create and review component designs using CATIA V5.
- Produce and review engineering drawings and support release activities.
- Design and develop leather-wrapped interior trim components.
- Manage engineering activities with suppliers and external design partners.
- Lead and participate in cross-functional design reviews.
- Generate innovative engineering solutions to design challenges.
- Support test and validation planning and engineering sign-off activities.
- Ensure designs meet quality, timing, cost and regulatory requirements.
- Support programme delivery across multiple vehicle projects.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Automotive product design and development experience.
- Proven experience designing interior trim systems, ideally door trim.
- Advanced working knowledge of CATIA V5.
- Experience creating and reviewing engineering drawings.
- Experience managing suppliers and external engineering partners.
- Strong understanding of automotive product development processes.
- Ability to solve complex engineering and design-related problems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead activities without direct reports.
- Experience delivering components from concept through production release.
Desirable Experience
- Previous OEM experience (Bentley, JLR, Aston Martin, McLaren, VW Group or similar).
- Experience with Tier 1 automotive suppliers delivering trim systems.
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering / V-Model development processes.
- Understanding of VW Group systems and processes.
- Financial and commercial awareness.
- Experience working on luxury vehicle interiors.
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline (preferred and highly desirable).
