Marine Engineer
Peel Pilot Launch | Port & Marine
Base salary: £32,000 – £35,000, depending on experience
Call-out stipend: £8,050 per year for 1 week in 4 on-call
We’re looking for an experienced Marine Engineer to join the team and support the safe and reliable operation of a fleet of pilot and support vessels.
Salary & Benefits
- Overtime available for callouts and additional planned maintenance outside normal Monday–Friday working hours, including weekends
- Engineers currently average approximately £48,000 per year when fully staffed
- 33 days’ holiday, including bank holidays

You’ll be responsible for the maintenance, repair and servicing of marine engineering, electrical and hull systems, helping to ensure vessels remain safe, operational and ready for service.
Key responsibilities:
- Planned and reactive maintenance of vessels and equipment
- Mechanical and electrical fault finding and repairs
- Supporting dry-docking and out-of-water operations
- Maintaining engineering records and planned maintenance schedules
- Investigating and rectifying defects
- Providing technical support to vessel crews
- Managing mechanical and electrical spare parts
- Responding to marine emergencies when required
- Providing out-of-hours engineering cover
- Working safely in line with risk assessments and safe systems of work
What We’re Looking For
- Time-served Marine Engineer, Plant Engineer, 3rd Engineer or equivalent
- Mechanical and electrical engineering experience
- Knowledge of onboard power systems
- Experience with planned maintenance systems
- Understanding of marine safety procedures
- Experience with risk assessments, permits to work and safe systems of work
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Good organisation and teamwork
- Full, clean manual driving licence
- Flexible approach to working hours
Training & Development
You’ll receive training in areas including:
- Abrasive wheels
- Forklift truck operation
- Slinger / Banksman
- Knuckle boom crane operations
There will also be opportunities to develop core engineering skills through new-build support and other projects, helping you continue to grow your technical experience.
