Key Responsibilities
1. Installation & Wiring
-
Install new electrical systems, including wiring, distribution boards (consumer units), sockets, switches, and light fittings.
-
Follow technical drawings, diagrams, and specifications (e.g., from architects or engineers).
-
Route cables, either internally in conduits/trunking or externally, ensuring protection and support.
-
Connect power supplies to machinery, control systems, and other equipment in industrial settings.
2. Testing, Inspection & Fault Finding (Crucial Skill)
-
Perform Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) to assess the safety of existing installations.
-
Use specialised test equipment (e.g., multimeters, insulation resistance testers, earth fault loop testers) to check for faults, continuity, and safety.
-
Diagnose and rectify electrical faults efficiently and safely, from a tripping circuit to a major system failure.
3. Maintenance & Repair
-
Carry out routine maintenance on electrical systems to ensure longevity and safety.
-
Repair or replace faulty components, such as circuit breakers, fuse boards, and damaged wiring.
-
Upgrade existing electrical systems to meet current regulations (e.g., upgrading a consumer unit to provide RCD protection).
