About the Role:
We are recruiting a Critical Services Electrical Engineer to join our team in London. You will be responsible for the safe delivery of electrical maintenance, fault-finding, and planned/reactive works within a business-critical environment, operating under a structured Permit to Work (PTW) and Isolation Management regime.
This role sits within the Technical Services job function and requires the post-holder to hold, or work towards, Authorised Person (AP) status for Electrical Isolations. You will act as a competent person under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and CBRE''s Safety Rules.
Please Note shift pattern is 6 on, 4 off, 4 on, 6 off (Hours: 07.00-19.00 and 19.00-07.00)
Role Responsibilities:
- Act as, or qualify to become, an Authorised Person (Electrical) for HV/LV isolations within 6 months of onboarding, in accordance with CBRE Safety Rules and the client''s Isolation Management Procedure.
- Issue, control, and clear Permits to Work (PTW) and Electrical Isolation Certificates in compliance with BS EN ISO 50001 and site-specific Safe Systems of Work (SSoW).
- Perform LV and HV switching operations, including the application and removal of earthing, locking-off, caution/danger notices, and proving dead using approved test equipment.
- Carry out LOTO (Lock Out / Tag Out) procedures and maintain an accurate isolation register.
- Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM), condition assessments, and reactive fault-finding on all electrical plant including HV switchgear, LV distribution boards, UPS systems, generators, CRAC/CRAH units, and associated building services.
- Maintain an up-to-date log of all work completed and outstanding items via the CMMS (e.g. Maximo / IBM Tririga / ServiceNow).
- Ensure all contractors and staff comply with CBRE, client, and statutory safety and security requirements; conduct contractor inductions and supervise high-risk activities.
- Participate in and support the Critical Services training programme including HV Switching, AP/CP Authorisation, and Emergency Procedures.
- Ensure effective communication with the client, management team, and helpdesk, escalating out-of-line situations with incident reports.
- Operate as a collaborative team member, sharing technical expertise to resolve operational problems and providing cover during holidays, training, and sickness.
- Deliver own output by following defined procedures and processes, exercising professional judgement within approved Safe Systems of Work.
Role Requirements:
Required Qualifications & Certifications
Electrical Engineering (Essential)
- City & Guilds 2360 / 2357 or NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services (or equivalent recognised qualification).
- 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) - current edition.
- City & Guilds 2391 or 2394/2395 Inspection, Testing & Verification of Electrical Installations.
- Authorised Person (AP) - Electrical certificate, or demonstrable eligibility and commitment to achieve AP status within 6 months.
- Competency in issuing and administering Permits to Work, Electrical Isolation Certificates, and associated SSoW documentation.
- Practical experience of LOTO procedures and the use of approved voltage-detection equipment.
- Knowledge of BS EN 61439 (LV switchgear) and BS EN 62271 (HV switchgear) standards.
Health, Safety & Compliance (Essential)
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent (NEBOSH General Certificate desirable).
- Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 - working knowledge of duty-holder responsibilities.
- Awareness of CDM Regulations 2015 and their application to electrical maintenance activities.
- First Aid at Work (3-day) - current certificate desirable.
Additional Technical Certifications (Desirable)
- PASMA Towers for Users or IPAF 3a/3b for working at height.
Skills & Knowledge
Technical Skills (Essential)
- Advanced electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills across LV distribution systems, power quality, and emergency power (UPS, generators, automatic transfer switches).
- Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams (SLDs), electrical schematics, and as-built drawings.
- Proficiency in the use of calibrated test and measurement equipment (MFTs, PAT testers, power analysers, thermal imaging cameras).
- Knowledge of critical infrastructure: UPS, generators, CRAC/CRAH, PDUs, bus-bar trunking, and fire-suppression interfaces.
- Strong understanding of earthing and bonding requirements (BS 7430).
Technical Skills (Desirable)
- Data centre operations experience (BICSI, Uptime Institute, or TIA-942 awareness).
- Familiarity with CMMS platforms (Maximo, Archibus, or equivalent).
- Report writing and maintenance record management.

Working Conditions & Circumstances
- 12-hour rotating shift pattern (6 on / 4 off / 4 on / 6 off), covering days and nights.
- Flexibility regarding working hours, including occasional weekend and bank holiday working.
- Provide out-of-hours accessibility as part of the on-call escalation procedure.
- Work will be carried out within live electrical environments; full PPE including arc-flash rated clothing (ATPV rated to site risk assessment) is mandatory and provided.
- Security clearance (BS 7858 vetting) required prior to site access.
