Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the delivery of engineering, maintenance, and critical environment services within a prestigious commercial building portfolio in Central London.
This is a hands-on role responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and improving critical electrical and building services infrastructure. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering management, contractors, facilities teams, and client stakeholders to ensure systems are operated safely, efficiently, and in line with operational and compliance requirements.
The role offers a varied workload across maintenance, project support, contractor management, fault finding, critical systems operation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical & Building Services Maintenance
- Maintain and support Low Voltage (LV) and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) electrical systems.
- Carry out fault finding, diagnostics, and repairs on electrical distribution systems and controls.
- Operate, isolate, and manage building plant and equipment safely.
- Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
- Install, maintain, and commission new plant and equipment when required.
- Ensure plant faults and defects are identified and resolved efficiently.
- Maintain suitable stock levels of critical spare parts.
Critical Environment Operations
- Support operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure including:
- UPS systems
- Standby power systems
- Power distribution systems
- Cooling systems
- HVAC infrastructure
- Computer room and critical facility environments
- Monitor power quality and carry out diagnostics using power analysis equipment.
- Ensure operational resilience and support emergency response activities.
HVAC & Building Management Systems
- Support HVAC plant operations and troubleshooting.
- Work with:
- FCU systems
- VAV systems
- Chilled water systems
- Chilled beams
- Pump sets
- PRVs and pressure vessels
- Perform fault finding and operational support on BMS systems.
- Monitor environmental conditions and plant performance.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety requirements.
- Manage and support Permit to Work and Control of Work processes.
- Conduct site surveys and prepare:
- Risk Assessments
- Method Statements
- Work Requests
- Support contractor supervision and compliance monitoring.
- Maintain engineering documentation and records to industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with water hygiene and L8 requirements.
Contractor & Project Management
- Coordinate and supervise contractors on maintenance and project activities.
- Support engineering projects, upgrades, and small works.
- Ensure work is completed safely, to specification, within budget, and on schedule.
- Support technical services and project managers with project delivery.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Produce incident reports and root cause analyses for operational failures.
- Monitor and improve service delivery through best practice initiatives.
- Analyse building performance data and identify areas for improvement.
- Support continuous improvement across engineering operations.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Minimum 5 years'' experience within a critical facilities, commercial building, or engineering environment.
- Recognised Electrical Apprenticeship.
- City & Guilds Electrical Qualification or equivalent.
- Strong LV electrical systems knowledge.
- Experience carrying out isolations and permit-to-work procedures.
- Building services and HVAC experience.
- Experience with BMS systems and controls.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Experience fault finding on:
- Motors
- Relays
- Contactors
- PCBs
- VFDs
- Soft starters
- Strong working knowledge of electrical wiring regulations.
- IT literate with experience using tablets, maintenance management software, and Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
- IOSH, NEBOSH, SMSTS or equivalent certification.
- Authorised Person (AP) experience.
- Experience within critical environments or data centres.
- Thermographic inspection experience.
- Knowledge of PLC wiring diagrams.
- Understanding of ELV systems and inverters.
- Experience with DALI lighting systems.
- Microsoft Project experience.
