Electrical Design Engineer / Controls Engineer

Are you an Electrical Design Engineer with experience designing control systems, panels or electrical systems within an industrial engineering environment?

We are working with a well-established engineering business specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke automation and robotic solutions. The company delivers technically complex equipment across a range of industries including automotive, medical, plastics and packaging.

You do not need previous special purpose machinery experience to be considered. Candidates from adjacent electrical design environments such as industrial automation, machinery, manufacturing equipment, packaging, material handling, process equipment or systems integration would all be of interest.

The Role

Responsibilities will include:

• Producing detailed electrical schematics and circuit diagrams using EPLAN
• Designing control panels and electrical control systems
• Creating bills of materials and selecting appropriate electrical components
• Designing electrical and safety systems in line with relevant standards
• Supporting the build and wiring of control panels and equipment
• Working closely with electrical technicians during build and testing
• Fault-finding and troubleshooting electrical and safety systems
• Supporting installation and commissioning when required
• Making modifications and improvements to existing electrical systems
• Working alongside mechanical, electrical and controls engineers to deliver complete projects
• Supporting customers both remotely and on-site when required

About You

We are looking for someone with a strong electrical design background who is comfortable working with industrial control systems.

You will ideally have:

• Experience working as an Electrical Design Engineer, Controls Engineer, Electrical Systems Engineer or similar
• Strong experience using EPLAN
• Experience producing electrical schematics, circuit diagrams and control-panel designs
• Experience designing electrical control systems within an industrial, manufacturing, machinery or automation environment
• A good understanding of electrical components and control-panel hardware
• Knowledge of electrical safety systems and relevant engineering standards
• Experience producing bills of materials and selecting electrical components
• The ability to fault-find electrical and control systems

Experience within special purpose machinery or industrial automation would be highly desirable but is not essential.

Experience with any of the following would also be beneficial:

• Packaging or manufacturing machinery
• Material handling or conveyor systems
• Process equipment
• Systems integration
• Robotic systems
• Siemens, Omron, Rockwell / Allen-Bradley or B&R PLCs
• PLC programming
• Machine safety or risk assessments
• SISTEMA
• SCARA, Delta or 6-axis robots
• Installation and commissioning
