Electrical Design Engineer

Manufacturing Futures are supporting a specialist engineering business in their search for an Electrical Design Engineer with experience of Test Systems. This role would suit an Electrical or Electronic Engineering graduate with some relevant industry experience, or an early-career Design Engineer looking to develop within automated test equipment, process control and complex electrical systems.

The successful Electrical Design Engineer / Test Systems Engineer will join a technically strong engineering team and take responsibility for designing electrical circuits and systems for automated test and process control applications. You will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from understanding the customer''s testing requirements through to electrical design, manufacture, system debugging, testing and commissioning.

The role has a strong electrical and electronic engineering bias and would particularly suit someone who enjoys understanding how a complete system works rather than focusing on one small element of a project.

Test Systems Engineer – Role & Responsibilities – Electrical Design Engineer / Electronics / ATE / Test Systems

• Design electrical circuits and complete electrical systems for automated test equipment and process control applications
• Work with customers to understand their electrical and product testing requirements
• Develop solutions for the safe and effective testing of customer products
• Select appropriate test, measurement and instrumentation equipment for each application
• Produce electrical schematics and system drawings using EPLAN or similar electrical CAD software
• Consider signal integrity, grounding, shielding and other electrical design requirements when developing systems
• Present electrical designs to customers as part of technical and design review meetings
• Produce supporting technical documentation and bills of materials
• Hand completed designs over to manufacturing and provide engineering support throughout the build process
• Respond to technical questions and resolve issues arising during manufacture
• Support system debugging and fault finding during the test phase
• Assist with system testing, validation and commissioning
• Work closely with electrical, electronic, software and production engineers throughout project delivery
• Support modifications and design updates where required during manufacture and commissioning
• Investigate new test, measurement and automation technologies where appropriate

Test Systems Engineer – Skills & Experience – Electrical Design Engineer / Electronics / ATE / Test Systems

• Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electronics and Communications, Control Systems Engineering or a closely related discipline
• Previous experience designing or delivering electrical or electronic systems for test applications
• Good understanding of electrical and electronic circuit and system design
• Experience using electrical CAD software, with EPLAN particularly desirable
• Experience working with test and measurement equipment
• Comfortable interpreting customer requirements and developing practical engineering solutions
• Good technical communication skills and the confidence to participate in customer design reviews
• Able to support equipment through manufacture, testing, debugging and commissioning
• Willingness to develop knowledge across both electrical and electronic engineering disciplines

The position will be based from Sheffield, allowing the successful engineer to remain closely involved with systems during manufacture and to provide hands-on engineering support during build, test and debugging. This is an excellent opportunity for an Electrical or Electronic Engineer who wants to develop broader systems experience and become involved throughout the complete engineering lifecycle. Rather than concentrating purely on producing drawings, you will have the opportunity to understand the customer''s requirements, design the electrical system, select the appropriate measurement technology, see the equipment being built and then support it through testing and commissioning.
