EHS Manager
Wolviston Management Services is partnering with a leading global chemical manufacturer to recruit an experienced Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for its manufacturing facility at Wilton, Teesside. 1 year fixed term with a strong potential that this will lead to permanent role.
This is a senior site leadership position within a highly regulated, top-tier COMAH environment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence site strategy, strengthen process and occupational safety performance, and lead the continued development of a proactive, sustainable EHS culture.
The Role
As EHS Manager, you will be responsible for the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the site’s environmental, health and safety strategies, systems and performance.
Working as a key member of the Site Leadership Team, you will provide both strategic direction and practical support to management, employees and contractors. You will ensure that the site operates in accordance with relevant legislation, environmental permits, corporate standards and recognised industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all environmental, health and safety activities across the site.
- Ensure compliance with UK EHS legislation, COMAH requirements, environmental permits and corporate standards.
- Provide visible leadership and promote a positive, proactive and sustainable safety culture.
- Advise and support site management, employees and contractors on EHS matters.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective and preventative action programmes.
- Act as the principal site contact for regulatory authorities, local stakeholders and external organisations.
- Support process safety activities, including HAZOPs, process hazard reviews, facility siting studies and fire safety assessments.
- Develop and maintain EHS management systems, audit programmes and performance reporting processes.
- Establish, monitor and improve site EHS KPIs and action-tracking arrangements.
- Lead EHS audits, inspections, compliance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Deliver coaching, training and awareness programmes across all levels of the organisation.
- Manage EHS budgets, resource requirements and relevant contractor performance.
- Implement corporate EHS standards and promote best practice across the site.
- Influence behavioural change and embed EHS accountability throughout the organisation.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have:
- Significant EHS leadership experience within the chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical or wider process manufacturing sectors.
- Previous experience working within a COMAH-regulated facility.
- Extensive knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
- A NEBOSH Diploma, relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification.
- Strong knowledge of process safety management and risk assessment methodologies.
- Experience leading incident investigations, audits, inspections and management system improvements.
- Knowledge of ISO management systems and internal auditing practices.
- Strong communication, coaching and stakeholder-management skills.
- The ability to influence senior leaders, employees, contractors and external stakeholders.
- A practical, analytical and solutions-focused approach to EHS management.
