Ecologist - Brighton

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Ecologist to join a growing environmental consultancy based in Brighton. This role offers the chance to work on a diverse portfolio of projects across the residential, commercial, infrastructure and public sectors, delivering high-quality ecological advice while developing technical expertise within a supportive and collaborative team.

The successful candidate will undertake a range of ecological surveys, including protected species and habitat surveys, prepare technical reports, assist with Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments and mitigation strategies, and contribute to project delivery from inception through to completion. There will also be opportunities to develop specialist skills and progress professionally within a well-established consultancy.

Key Responsibilities;

  • Undertake Phase 1/UKHab habitat surveys and protected species surveys.

  • Produce high-quality ecological reports, including PEAs, EcIAs, BNG assessments and species-specific reports.

  • Support project managers in delivering ecological inputs on a wide variety of developments.

  • Liaise with clients, planning authorities and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Assist with mitigation design, licensing and ecological clerk of works where required.

  • Ensure work is completed to a high technical standard and within project deadlines.

Requirements;

  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline.

  • Experience working within an ecological consultancy or similar environment.

  • Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy and best practice guidance.

  • Experience undertaking habitat and protected species surveys.

  • Strong report writing and communication skills.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) is desirable.
