EC&I Technician (UK Wide Travel)

North West based candidates considered, ideally within 45 minutes of Knowsley

Earn up to £80,000 with paid accommodation, meal allowances and a fully equipped company van

We''re hiring on behalf of one of the UK''s leading engineering and energy infrastructure businesses for experienced EC&I Technicians to join a growing national team.

If you''re looking for a role where you''re genuinely looked after while working away, this opportunity offers an excellent work-life balance for a UK-wide field role, outstanding earning potential, and long-term career security.

What you''ll be doing

Working across industrial and hazardous area environments throughout the UK, you''ll be responsible for:

  • Installing, commissioning and maintaining electrical control and instrumentation systems.
  • PLC fault finding and basic programming support.
  • Calibration, inspection and testing of instrumentation including pressure, level, flow and temperature devices.
  • Installation and commissioning of hazardous area electrical systems.
  • Working with industrial communications including Modbus, Profibus and Profinet.
  • Reading engineering documentation including FDS and URS documentation.
  • Fault finding, breakdown response and commissioning activities at customer and operational sites.

Travel across the UK is an essential part of the role, with overnight stays during the week when required.

What you''ll need

  • Time-served Electrical or EC&I apprenticeship.
  • Level 3 NVQ Electrical (or equivalent).
  • Level 3 BTEC in Instrumentation & Control Engineering (or equivalent).
  • CompEx EX01-04 certification.
  • Experience commissioning and maintaining hazardous area electrical installations.
  • Basic PLC knowledge.
  • Experience calibrating and testing industrial instrumentation.
  • Full UK driving licence.

What you''ll earn

This is one of those roles where the advertised salary doesn''t tell the full story.

What You''ll Earn

This role offers an excellent earning potential with enhanced overtime rates and generous allowances for working away.

Hourly Pay Rates:

  • Standard Rate: £23.08 per hour
  • Time & a Half: £34.62 per hour
  • Double Time: £46.15 per hour

Typical Earnings:

  • Basic Salary: £48,000, OTE £72,300 per year based on realistic overtime
  • Away-from-home Allowances: Approximately £8,640 per year
  • Typical Annual Earnings: £80,940

A typical working week consists of 40 standard hours, with around 13.5 hours paid at time and a half, plus £60 per night for overnight stays (made up of a £30 overnight allowance and a £30 meal allowance).

Unlike many field engineering roles, these earnings are based on a realistic 53.5-hour working week, not excessive 60+ hour weeks. The client actively manages engineer wellbeing and driving fatigue, so excessive overtime is neither expected nor encouraged.

Everything is Taken Care Of

When you''re working away, the client ensures you have everything you need:

  • Hotels arranged and paid for
  • £30 overnight allowance
  • Additional £30 meal allowance per night
  • State-of-the-art fully equipped company van
  • Fuel card
  • Company credit card for business expenses
  • Specialist tools and equipment provided

This means very little comes out of your own pocket while you''re on the road, allowing you to maximise your take-home pay.

Additional Benefits

  • Annual discretionary bonus
  • Enhanced pension
  • Life assurance
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Health and wellbeing support
  • Retail discounts
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Additional volunteering day
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies
  • Ongoing training and development
  • Excellent long-term career progression

Why apply?

With realistic earnings of over £80,000, paid accommodation, meal allowances, modern vehicles, and a business investing heavily in its engineering teams, this role offers one of the strongest overall packages currently available within the UK field engineering market.
