Early Years Room Leader – Toddlers

This permanent position is perfect if you enjoy hands-on learning with children aged 2 to 3 while leading, supporting and motivating a room team to deliver the highest standard of Early Years care.

The Role

As the Toddlers Room Leader, you will balance creative, practical Early Years work with overall room leadership. You’ll enable children at this crucial age to develop communication, independence and social skills while ensuring a nurturing and safe environment.

  • Take responsibility for the daily organisation of the Toddlers Room
  • Lead, motivate and support your room team
  • Maintain appropriate staffing ratios and a welcoming, stimulating setting
  • Plan and deliver engaging activities based on children’s interests and stages of development
  • Support language, social, physical and emotional development
  • Complete regular observations and assessments to track progress and inform next steps
  • Develop strong, positive relationships with children and their families
  • Communicate children’s progress and daily experiences to parents or carers
  • Champion safeguarding, health and safety standards at all times

 

Skills and Experience
  • Level 3 Early Years qualification – essential
  • Previous Room Leader experience – essential
  • Significant experience in a nursery or Early Years environment
  • Strong up-to-date knowledge of the EYFS
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification, or willingness to obtain it
  • Confident team leadership and people skills
  • Excellent understanding of child development and safeguarding
  • Ability to create fun, purposeful and age-appropriate activities
  • Outstanding organisation and proactive approach
  • Clear communication skills with both children and adults
  • Genuine enthusiasm for nurturing young children’s development through play

 

Location and Package
  • Location: Great Barr, Birmingham
  • Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 per annum
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Some flexibility with hours depending on nursery needs
