Design & Technology Technician

Location: Leeds

We are currently recruiting for a Design & Technology Technician to join a welcoming secondary school and provide essential technical and practical support to the Design & Technology department.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a practical, hands-on background who enjoys working in a school environment and supporting students and teaching staff.



The Role

As a Design & Technology Technician, you will work closely with teaching staff to ensure the department is fully prepared and equipped for practical lessons. You will help maintain a safe, organised and well-resourced workshop environment and support the smooth delivery of practical activities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing materials, tools and equipment for Design & Technology lessons.
  • Providing practical and technical support to teaching staff during lessons.
  • Ensuring workshops, classrooms and equipment are maintained to a high standard.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance and basic repairs of tools and equipment.
  • Supporting the safe use of machinery, tools and workshop equipment.
  • Monitoring stock levels and ordering materials and resources when required.
  • Assisting with the preparation and production of resources and student projects.
  • Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop environment.
  • Supporting teachers and students with practical projects where appropriate.


About You

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience in a workshop, engineering, manufacturing, construction, carpentry, joinery or Design & Technology environment.

School experience would be advantageous but is not essential for the right candidate.

We are particularly interested in candidates with practical experience in areas such as:

  • Woodwork / carpentry / joinery
  • Metalwork
  • Engineering
  • Product Design
  • CAD/CAM
  • 3D printing
  • CNC machinery
  • Workshop tools and equipment

You will need to be practical, organised and reliable, with a strong understanding of workshop safety and a genuine interest in supporting young people.
