Domestic Violence Children''s Worker

Role Type: Temp to Perm (3-month temporary contract with the opportunity to transfer to a permanent contract)

Hours: Part-Time – 22.5 hours per week (days to be agreed)
Salary: £14.68 per hour PAYE + £1.77 per hour holiday pay

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people affected by domestic abuse? We are recruiting for a dedicated Children''s Worker to join a specialist Safe House and Community team, providing high-quality emotional and practical support to children and young people (CYP) aged 0–17.
  
In this rewarding role, you will work closely with families living in safe accommodation and within the community, helping children recover from trauma, rebuild confidence, and access the services they need to thrive.
  
You will advocate on behalf of children and families, working collaboratively with schools, healthcare professionals, social care, and other agencies to ensure their voices are heard and their needs are met.
  
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience supporting vulnerable children who wants to make a genuine difference within a specialist domestic abuse service.

Day to Day Duties:
  

  • Provide one-to-one emotional and practical support to children and young people who have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse.
  • Welcome families into safe accommodation and help create a safe, supportive and child-focused environment.
  • Complete assessments and develop tailored support plans to meet the individual needs of children and families.
  • Support children in processing trauma through therapeutic activities, play, one-to-one sessions and group work.
  • Advocate on behalf of children and families with schools, health professionals, social care and other partner agencies.
  • Assist children with settling into new schools, nurseries, GP surgeries and community activities.
  • Deliver safety planning and promote children''s wellbeing, resilience and recovery.
  • Plan and deliver holiday activities, after-school clubs and age-appropriate play sessions.
  • Promote positive parent-child relationships and encourage family wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate records and update case management systems.
  • Work collaboratively within a multi-agency team to provide coordinated family support.
  • Identify safeguarding concerns and follow child protection procedures at all times.
  • Participate in evening and weekend rota duties as required.
  
Preferred Requirements:
  
  • Experience working with children, young people or families affected by domestic abuse, trauma or other complex needs.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection legislation.
  • Experience completing assessments and developing support plans.
  • Excellent communication, advocacy and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and child-centred practice.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends..

 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Childcare, Health & Social Care, Youth Work or a related field.
  • Safeguarding training or equivalent professional development.
  • Knowledge of domestic abuse services and relevant legislation.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
