An exceptional opportunity is available for an experienced senior leader to shape public health, prevention and community wellbeing across a complex local authority environment.
As a Statutory Director of Public Health, you will provide strategic leadership across public health while also overseeing a broader portfolio focused on prevention, leisure and community wellbeing. Working as part of the senior corporate leadership team, you will influence organisational strategy and drive a place-based approach to tackling health inequalities and improving outcomes for communities.
You will work across organisational boundaries and with elected members, health partners, community organisations and regional and national stakeholders. The role requires a confident system leader who can navigate complexity, build strong partnerships and translate strategic ambition into measurable improvements in population health, wellbeing and opportunity.
About you
You will bring:

Significant senior leadership experience within public health, local government or a related complex system environment.

A strong track record of influencing at corporate, partnership and system level.

Experience leading programmes focused on prevention, health improvement, wellbeing and reducing health inequalities.

Excellent strategic, political and organisational judgement.

The ability to work effectively with elected members and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Proven experience of leading through influence and delivering outcomes through partnerships.

Strong communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.

The credibility and presence to operate effectively at local, regional and national level.

A forward-thinking and innovative approach to improving services and outcomes for communities.
Professional Requirements
Applicants must hold appropriate specialist registration, including the GMC Specialist Register in Public Health Medicine with a licence to practise, GDC Specialist List, or UK Public Health Register at specialist level, together with membership of the Faculty of Public Health by examination, exemption, assessment or an equivalent qualification.
