The role:
This senior strategic leadership role reports directly to the Chief People Officer and is accountable for a function of approximately 30 people. The role will shape effectiveness, capability and long-term performance of the organisation by aligning culture, structure and people with the strategic goals of SJP. The role blends elements of HR strategy, leadership development, culture and engagement, talent, performance, succession and learning to align OD initiatives with the overall business strategy and goals.
What you''ll be doing
Partner with Leaders to develop and execute a culture strategy aligned with SJP’s values and strategy.
Assess and shape organizational culture through targeted initiatives to support SJP’s business goals.
Develop a DEI strategy and collaborate on initiatives that contribute to an inclusive culture.
Shape the employee experience by fostering a positive workplace culture and driving employee engagement initiatives – monitor resulting engagement metrics.
Use data to measure effectiveness of OD initiatives. Present insights and recommend strategies and actions to leaders.
Lead and contribute to a workforce planning strategy to align with current and future organizational capability and capacity requirements.
Implement a performance management strategy and framework to ensure alignment with SJP strategic objectives and values.
Ensure alignment of performance management with interdependent teams such as People regulatory, Culture and Reward.
Develop a talent strategy and initiatives to identify, develop and retain current and future talent needs of SJP.
Develop a robust approach to ensure strong succession for critical and senior roles, ensuring clear actions to address gaps and development plans for identified successors.
Partner with Leaders, external organisations and HR colleagues to develop Leadership capability at all levels.
Ensure current and future leaders are assessed and have clear development plans in place, using resulting data to inform leadership initiatives.
Identify organisational development gaps and partner to deliver initiatives to address these gaps. Support leadership transitions with onboarding, coaching, and targeted development.
Measure leadership strength and readiness metrics.
Drive, design, implement and evaluate learning strategies to develop employee capabilities, improve performance and support business goals. Ensure alignment of learning initiatives to organizational priorities and future skills needs.
Build organisational capability by providing the right framework and tools to develop colleagues, ensuring they have the skills and capabilities required to deliver the organizational goals.
Who we''re looking forThe role holder will be a proven credible people leader with the ability to engage effectively at all levels across the business, exerting senior authority and influence. They will be an experienced cultural change expert and someone who has had significant experience in shaping and delivering organisational development strategies previously. They will have experience of driving transformation whilst innovating the employee experience resulting in strong commercial growth. Previous industry knowledge/experience will enable them to successfully navigate industry-specific challenges within the context of people leadership, organizational development and change. They will have demonstrable experience of building capability, upskilling and motivating leaders/teams to enable them to deliver their assigned responsibilities. This person will operate comfortably at GEC level and have previous experience as a member of a People Leadership team. They will lead a team of approximately 30 employees across SJP UK locations within a matrix reporting structure and be responsible for embedding the FCA’s Principle 12. They will be able to deal with multiple, complex and interconnected problems and be adept at identifying potential business risks. They will own and manage budgets and delivery plans, ensuring delivery against budget, targets and reporting requirements.

Culture custodian – proven successful experience of developing, driving and executing a culture strategy to underpin effective organisational culture review to achieve SJP’s business goals.

Able to lead a substantial portfolio of concurrent activity from inception to implementation.
Able to deal with multiple, complex and interconnected problems which require analysis of multiple sources of information to formulate coherent solutions evidencing exceptional business acumen.
Highly effective in times of ambiguity – applies critical thinking in rapidly changing environment.
Inspirational leader – able to manage a significant size team across different locations – leads by example and role models the Group’s culture and policies.
High degrees of both confidentiality and emotional intelligence – employs the most effective strategy to advance communication and relationships.
Boards and CommitteesAttendance at appropriate Board meetings and Committees as appropriate, providing appropriate challenge and contribution to ensure the right outcomes for SJP.
Special RequirementsSome national travel (most likely between Cirencester, London and Bristol locations), with some occasional overnight stays. Flexibility around working hours is expected from time to time in keeping with leadership expectations at this level.
