Director of Engineering, Web Application Development - London Stock Exchange Group. Senior leadership position in the FTSE Russell Technology team. You will partner with various business functions in the Index Business to understand the vision and build and lead engineering teams. The selected candidate is encouraged to drive key initiatives that provide operational tooling across a range of business processes enabling multiple functions – index creation, management and reviews, product and research functions. This role requires solid understanding of front-end and back-end architectures.Role Description

This is a senior leadership position in the FTSE Russell Technology team. You will be responsible for partnering with business functions in the Index Business to understand the vision and accordingly build and lead engineering teams. The selected candidate is encouraged to drive key initiatives that focus on providing the operational tooling involving a range of business processes that enable multiple business functions – index creation, management and reviews, product and research function. To be successful, the selected individual will need to provide strong technology leadership across all project delivery dimensions, ensuring a consistent high-quality approach in delivery. This role requires solid understanding of front-end and back-end architectures.Key Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with the key FTSE Russell customers and provide overall technology engineering leadership, expertise, and mentorship to lead all aspects of software development – Requirements, Business Analysis, Architecture, Planning and ExecutionEngage and demonstrate end-to-end Index lifecycle, designing appropriate technical solutions involving user interfaces, back-end interactions and process orchestrationDevelop and implement roadmaps for platforms to deliver initiatives concerning key index business functionsArchitect, design and coordinate the development of sophisticated front-end tools and back-end servicesLead a team of engineers skilled on different stacks – Angular, Java, Python and SQLImplement multi-cloud solutions to ensure flexibility, scalability, and reliability of infrastructure across cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure)Evaluate new technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities for process improvement and innovationEnsure compliance with industry standards, best practices, and security requirementsDrive multi-functional collaboration with business analysts, product managers, and other partners to align technology solutions with business objectivesLead project delivery (cost and timelines), monitor progress, supervise key performance metrics, and provide regular updates to senior managementQualifications and Skills

Leadership and Team Management: 10+ years of technology leadership experience. Directly lead up to 5 global engineering teams developing sophisticated UI solutions with process orchestration and back-end interactionsStrategic Planning and Execution: Build and implement a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with long-term goalsTechnical Skills: Front- and back-end experience across Angular, Java, Python, and SQL; strong knowledge of modern technologies including AI/ML; extensive experience with AWS services and API development (GraphQL/REST)IT Strategy and Ownership: Proven ability to think strategically, analyze complex problems, and develop innovative solutions to drive business valueQuality Assurance and Review: Own the development and QA of software; design testing strategies aligned with industry best practicesModernisation and Data-Intensive Applications: Experience building data-intensive applications using latest technologiesDelivery Focus: Ability to plan, organize, and manage resources to achieve outcomes within defined timeframesChange Management: Structured approach to change, transformation, and helping people adapt to changeIndustry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the organisation’s industry and domains – Benchmarks and IndicesCommunication: Clear and precise communication of technical information to diverse audiencesProblem Solving: Define problems, generate solutions, and evaluate best optionsCustomer and Third-Party Management: Build relationships with internal/external stakeholders and manage external partnersAbout LSEG and Our Values
