Dietetic Lead for Research and Development

Job summaryAre you keen to work in an innovative role supporting clinical research? We are seeking a substantive Dietetic Research Lead with broad clinical knowledge coupled with research experience at doctoral level to support our large and expanding Nutrition and Dietetics department at UCLH.

Working collaboratively, the post holder will be based in the Nutrition and Dietetics Department with a remit to build research capacity and capability across our clinical dietetic teams. The post holder will lead on the development and implementation of a strategy for embedding research, developing the culture, and building research capacity within dietetics, in keeping with the Health Education England AHP Research and Innovation Strategy.

The post holder will be required to support others within the department to develop research within both NHS and commercial landscape. The post will be line managed by the Head of Nutrition and Dietetics and supported by the team in the Centre for Nurse, Midwife and AHP led Research (CNMAR).

Person SpecificationKnowledge and Qualifications

Essential

Four-year degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent

HCPC registered (Dietitian)

Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) or equivalent association

Post registration training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Masters or postgraduate study to master\''s level in specialist area of dietetics (e.g., PENG course, paediatric/renal modules)

Doctoral level training

Training in one or more qualitative and/or quantitative methodologies

Experience

Essential

Substantial post registration clinical experience (Dietitian)

Significant experience in a specialist area of dietetics

Sound knowledge of current issues relating to the specialist area

Experience of writing for publication and grant applications

Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary research team

Experience of running a research project

Doctoral level knowledge of quantitative or qualitative research methodologies, design and data analysis

Knowledge of qualitative data analysis software

Knowledge of ethical and legislative issues relating to research (e.g., Research Governance Framework, GCP, Data Protection Act)

IT skills including Microsoft Office

Desirable

Involvement in relevant specialist interest group

Experience in systematic reviews

Skills and Abilities

Essential

Design, conduct, analysis and dissemination of qualitative and/or quantitative research

Development and maintenance of databases

Managerial, leadership and organisational skills; time management

Able to work autonomously and across professional teams

Consultation skills with professional and non-professional groups

Negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to initiate change

Knowledge of research design and methods related to own field

Experience of leading a research project from inception to presentation

Communication

Essential

Excellent verbal and written communication

Experience of multidisciplinary teamwork

Ability to communicate with professionals, non-professionals and patients

Flexible and adaptable; confidentiality and consent awareness

Personal and People Development

Experience of training student dietitians/other HCPs

Health, Safety and Security

Essential

Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management relevant to dietetics

Specific Requirements

The postholder will need to be passed fit to perform full duties through occupational health with any reasonable aids
