Adaptations Surveyor (Disabled Adaptations / DFG)

Role Purpose

London Borough of Haringey is seeking an Adaptations Surveyor to deliver a highly effective, responsive, and professional disabled adaptations service. You’ll ensure works are completed to a high standard, within time targets and budget, while keeping the customer at the centre of service delivery.

This role provides a surveying service for properties requiring adaptations for a disabled occupant, including assessing the condition, suitability, and feasibility of proposed works. Where needed, you will identify building defects, diagnose causes, and specify remedies, while supporting a culture of continuous service improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise service users and colleagues on adaptations schemes, feasibility, and prepare scheme designs.
• Manage and monitor small and large-scale adaptations projects to ensure successful delivery on schedule.
• Assess the condition of existing buildings and identify/analyse defects that may impact proposed adaptations.
• Prepare documentation in support of Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) applications, as required.
• Carry out pre- and post-works inspections to ensure works meet contract standards and align with Occupational Therapist (OT) recommendations.
• Produce schedules of works, specifications, and AutoCAD drawings for contractor issue.
• Liaise with service users, representatives, statutory authorities, and contractors to resolve queries on planned or completed works.
• Work closely with and coordinate professional bodies to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and legislation, including:
• Health & Safety requirements
• CDM Regulations
• Party Wall Act (where applicable)
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of building methods, developments, and related products.
• Actively participate in team meetings focused on improving outcomes, best practice standards, and service development.
• Fulfil responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act and departmental procedures.
• Commit to ongoing professional development through mandatory and role-relevant training.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Essential

• HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Building Surveying or a related discipline or qualified by experience in a similar role.
• Proven experience delivering disabled adaptations projects to time and quality, including planning, managing, and monitoring programmes of work.
• Knowledge of the legislative and procedural frameworks relating to Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG).
• Ability to plan and deliver building works for disabled occupants, managing multiple workstreams and priorities.
• Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, asbestos awareness, and Health & Safety legislation.
• Ability to monitor and interpret KPI data and use it to assess contractor performance.
• Strong workload management skills, able to meet deadlines in a pressurised environment.
• Proficient user of AutoCAD.
• Strong communication skills, able to explain technical schedules and plans in an accessible way and keep customers updated throughout.

Desirable

• Local authority experience in housing/adaptations services.
• Experience working directly alongside Occupational Therapists and wider multi-disciplinary teams.
