Rate: £400-£475 per day
Contract Length: 6 months
IR35 Status: Outside IR35
Hours: 40 hours per week
Are you an experienced Principal Highways Engineer looking for your next contract opportunity?
We are supporting a major engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint two Principal-level Highways Engineers to support major highways and infrastructure works in the Birmingham area.
The role will operate as a Designer''s Site Representative position, providing the key technical interface between the highways design team and construction teams during the delivery phase of the project.
You will provide senior highways engineering support throughout construction, helping to resolve technical queries, assess proposed design changes, review site issues and ensure works remain compliant with the approved design, project specifications and relevant highways standards.
The role will not require you to be permanently site-based, however you must be available to attend site in Birmingham when construction or technical issues arise.
This position would suit a Chartered or experienced Principal Highways Engineer with a strong background in UK highways design who is comfortable working closely with contractors, site teams and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
·Act as the Designer''s Site Representative for highways works during the construction phase.
·Provide senior technical highways support to construction and site delivery teams.
·Review and respond to Technical Queries, RFIs and design-related construction issues.
·Assess contractor proposals and proposed changes to the approved highways design.
·Review construction works against drawings, specifications and design intent.
·Provide technical input into the resolution of NCRs, design clashes and site issues.
·Support the management and implementation of engineering changes during construction.
·Coordinate with highways, drainage, structures, earthworks, utilities and temporary works teams.
·Review technical submissions and construction information where required.
·Attend site meetings, technical reviews and engineering workshops.
·Support the resolution of interfaces between highways works and wider infrastructure packages.
·Provide technical guidance to site teams on highways design requirements.
·Ensure highways works are delivered in accordance with DMRB, relevant British Standards and project specifications.
·Support the review of as-built information and construction records.
·Liaise closely with contractors, designers, client representatives and multidisciplinary project teams.
·Identify and manage technical risks associated with highways construction activities.
·Provide practical engineering solutions where site conditions differ from the original design.
About You
·Significant experience working in highways engineering within the UK infrastructure sector.
·Strong background in highways design, ideally at Principal or Lead Engineer level.
·Good knowledge of DMRB and relevant UK highways standards.
·Experience supporting highways projects through the construction or delivery phase.
·Experience reviewing and responding to Technical Queries, RFIs and engineering changes.
·Strong understanding of highways design drawings, specifications and construction requirements.
·Experience resolving site-based design issues and technical challenges.
·Previous experience acting as a Designer''s Site Representative would be highly advantageous.
·Experience working on major highways, National Highways or complex infrastructure programmes would be beneficial.
·Good understanding of interfaces between highways, drainage, structures, utilities and earthworks.
·Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and design documentation.
·Strong understanding of CDM and engineering risk management requirements.
·Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly.
·Comfortable working directly with contractors, construction teams, clients and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
·Able to attend site in the Birmingham area when required.
·Chartered Engineer status, such as CEng MICE or equivalent, is highly desirable.
This is a strong opportunity for an experienced Principal Highways Engineer to support a major UK highways and infrastructure programme on a 6-month Outside IR35 contract.
