Freelance Design Manager – Mid-Rise Residential Scheme

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our team on a freelance basis, acting as the No. 2 lead on a mid-rise residential scheme in Stoke Newington.

Role Overview:
Working alongside the lead Design Manager, you will support the coordination and management of design activities across the project. This is a hands-on role requiring excellent organisational, technical, and communication skills to ensure that design information is delivered on time, to the required quality, and aligned with project objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the lead Design Manager in driving the design process from pre-construction through delivery stages.

• Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams to manage design packages.

• Review drawings and specifications, flagging design risks, clashes, or inconsistencies.

• Support in chairing design team meetings and maintaining accurate records.

• Help ensure compliance with planning, building regulations, and client requirements.

• Manage document control processes and information flow between stakeholders.

Requirements:

• Proven experience in design management within residential or mixed-use projects (ideally mid-rise schemes).

• Strong understanding of RIBA stages, technical drawings, and construction detailing.

• Ability to work effectively as a No. 2, supporting a lead Design Manager while taking responsibility for specific packages.

• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

• Freelance availability for the duration of the project.
