The Opportunity:
Our client, a leading civil engineering main contractor, is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of a growing portfolio of infrastructure projects across the North West.
This is a key role within the business, responsible for managing and coordinating the design process from tender through to construction, ensuring designs are safe, compliant, and buildable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the design process across multiple civil engineering projects
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, including consultants and subcontractors
- Ensure design outputs meet programme, budget, and quality requirements
- Review and challenge design proposals to ensure buildability and value engineering opportunities
- Manage design risk and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations
- Oversee design assurance and approval processes
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and internal delivery teams
- Support bid and tender stages with technical input and design planning
What We''re Looking For:
- Proven experience as a Design Manager within a civil engineering main contractor
- Strong background in infrastructure projects (e.g. highways, structures, drainage, utilities, or rail)
- Excellent understanding of design management processes and project delivery
- Ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Commercial awareness and ability to influence design decisions
Desirable:
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- Chartered or working towards chartership (ICE or similar) (desirable)
- Experience working under NEC contracts
- Background in delivering major infrastructure or complex projects
