Design Manager

The Opportunity:

Our client, a leading civil engineering main contractor, is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of a growing portfolio of infrastructure projects across the North West.

This is a key role within the business, responsible for managing and coordinating the design process from tender through to construction, ensuring designs are safe, compliant, and buildable.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the design process across multiple civil engineering projects
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, including consultants and subcontractors
• Ensure design outputs meet programme, budget, and quality requirements
• Review and challenge design proposals to ensure buildability and value engineering opportunities
• Manage design risk and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations
• Oversee design assurance and approval processes
• Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and internal delivery teams
• Support bid and tender stages with technical input and design planning

What We''re Looking For:

• Proven experience as a Design Manager within a civil engineering main contractor
• Strong background in infrastructure projects (e.g. highways, structures, drainage, utilities, or rail)
• Excellent understanding of design management processes and project delivery
• Ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Commercial awareness and ability to influence design decisions

Desirable:

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline
• Chartered or working towards chartership (ICE or similar) (desirable)
• Experience working under NEC contracts
• Background in delivering major infrastructure or complex projects
