This specialist interiors contractor delivers high-quality commercial interior and fit-out projects across London and the surrounding areas. Working closely with main contractors, architects, consultants and specialist subcontractors, they have developed a strong reputation for technically demanding projects where design coordination, quality and programme are critical.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to strengthen their technical team.
About the Role
The Design Manager will take responsibility for managing and coordinating the design process from pre-construction through to project completion. The Design Manager will work closely with clients, consultants, project teams and subcontractors to ensure designs are technically compliant, buildable and delivered in line with programme requirements.
As Design Manager, you will review drawings and specifications, identify design risks, manage RFIs and technical submissions, and coordinate interfaces between architectural, structural, MEP and specialist interior packages.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the design process across multiple interior and fit-out projects.
Coordinate architectural, MEP and specialist subcontractor information.
Review drawings, specifications and technical submissions for buildability and compliance.
Chair design coordination meetings and maintain design programmes and trackers.
Manage RFIs, design changes and approval processes.
Ensure designs comply with Building Regulations, fire, acoustic and performance requirements.
Support procurement teams with technically compliant subcontractor packages.
Work closely with site teams to resolve design issues during construction.
Ensure as-built information and technical documentation are completed correctly.
Requirements
The successful Design Manager will have previous experience working for a specialist interiors, fit-out or main contractor within commercial construction.
The Design Manager should have strong knowledge of technical detailing, design coordination and construction methodology, together with a good understanding of UK Building Regulations and CDM requirements.
Experience using AutoCAD, Revit, BIM or similar design coordination software would be beneficial.
A construction-related qualification such as an HNC/HND, degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Construction Management or a relevant professional qualification such as CIOB, RIBA or CIAT would be advantageous.
