Our client is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join a major UK water infrastructure programme, supporting the delivery of non-infrastructure wastewater projects. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in managing multidisciplinary design activities across a high-profile framework within the water sector.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Design Manager, you will be responsible for leading the design delivery of wastewater projects, ensuring programmes, deliverables, quality, and governance requirements are achieved. Working in a hybrid environment, you will collaborate closely with project, commercial, delivery, and design teams to deliver innovative, low-carbon, and cost-effective engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate the full design delivery process.
• Define design scope and key deliverables.
• Review and challenge project design programmes.
• Manage design changes and technical assurance processes.
• Lead design coordination, progress, and briefing meetings.
• Facilitate buildability, carbon-reduction, and DfMA workshops.
• Oversee BIM implementation in accordance with ISO 19650 standards.
• Coordinate design, CDM, and technical review activities.
• Support procurement decision-making and stakeholder engagement.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and project governance requirements.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• Experience within the water sector, particularly wastewater projects.
• Strong understanding of design management, design procurement, quality assurance, and project delivery.
• Knowledge of BIM processes and ISO 19650.
• Working knowledge of NEC4 contracts.
• Experience delivering multidisciplinary engineering projects.
• Experience and knowledge of Sludge Treatment THP.
• Understanding of CDM 2015 Regulations.
• Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• HNC, HND, or Degree qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Progression towards Chartered status with a recognised professional institution.
