The Design Engineer will play a key role in the development of innovative products and systems, supporting projects from initial concept through to manufacture, testing, and customer delivery. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to create robust, high-quality designs that meet customer and industry requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative mechanical and electromechanical design solutions for customer and internal projects.
- Produce 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, assemblies, and technical documentation.
- Design components and systems suitable for manufacture, assembly, testing, and operation.
- Perform engineering calculations, analysis, and design verification activities.
- Support prototype development, testing, validation, and product improvement initiatives.
- Liaise with manufacturing, procurement, quality, and project teams to ensure designs are delivered on time and within budget.
- Participate in design reviews and risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, regulations, and customer specifications.
- Investigate technical issues and implement effective engineering solutions.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and customer documentation.
- Support continuous improvement activities across engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Engage directly with customers and suppliers on technical matters when required.
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience in a design engineering role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar.
- Ability to interpret engineering specifications, standards, and technical drawings.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience working within aerospace, nuclear, power generation, or other highly regulated industries.
- Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) and engineering simulation tools.
- Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
- Understanding of quality management systems and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience supporting customer-facing engineering projects.
- Membership of a professional engineering institution or working towards professional registration.
