Salary: £50,000 per annum + company benefits

Industry: Food Processing / Process Engineering

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Engineer / Design Coordinator to support the delivery of engineering and design projects within the food processing industry.

This is a coordination-focused engineering role suited to someone with a strong understanding of food processing engineering who can confidently review, coordinate and manage design information produced by third-party designers.

You will act as a key link between engineering teams, clients, external design partners and site operations, ensuring designs are accurate, practical and aligned with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, layouts and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate design information produced by third-party design companies and ensure it meets project requirements.
  • Review drawings and specifications for accuracy, completeness and compliance.
  • Interpret PFDs, P&IDs and associated engineering documentation.
  • Coordinate the transfer of technical and design information between internal teams, clients and suppliers.
  • Liaise with third-party designers to clarify requirements, resolve technical queries and ensure specifications are incorporated.
  • Attend customer and project sites, typically 1–2 days per week, to inspect existing installations and gather accurate site information.
  • Carry out site measurements and surveys covering existing plant, equipment, pipework and interfaces.
  • Review 3D design information and visual content produced using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Identify discrepancies between design information and site conditions and ensure these are communicated and resolved.
  • Work closely with project and engineering teams to ensure designs are suitable for manufacture and installation.
  • Maintain accurate records of design changes, technical information and document transfers throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Experience
  • Experience within food processing engineering is essential.
  • Previous experience in design engineering, design coordination or engineering project coordination.
  • Strong ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Experience reviewing and coordinating design work produced by third parties.
  • Good understanding of engineering specifications and technical documentation.
  • Experience interpreting process diagrams, PFDs and/or P&IDs.
  • Comfortable attending customer and operational sites and carrying out measurements and surveys.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, designers, clients and suppliers.
  • Ability to identify design issues, ask the right technical questions and ensure requirements are clearly communicated.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience working on projects for major food manufacturing clients, particularly Nestlé and/or Weetabix.
  • SolidWorks experience and the ability to interpret 3D models and visual design information.
  • Background within food manufacturing, food production or process engineering environments.
  • Experience coordinating engineering projects involving multiple external suppliers or design partners.
  • Familiarity with hygienic design principles and equipment used within food processing environments.
The Person

We are looking for a technically minded, organised and confident individual who is comfortable working with both engineering information and people.

You do not necessarily need to be the person producing every drawing yourself. Instead, you will need to understand the design, challenge information where necessary, coordinate third-party designers and ensure the final design meets project and site requirements.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable moving between the office, design environment and customer sites, combining strong technical understanding with a practical approach to engineering and excellent attention to detail.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Design Engineer, Design Coordinator, Project Engineer or Mechanical Design Engineer with a background in food processing or process engineering.

Package
  • £50,000 salary
  • Company benefits
  • Peterborough-based position
  • Regular customer and project site visits, typically 1–2 days per week
  • Opportunity to work on engineering projects within the food processing sector

If you have the technical knowledge, coordination skills and practical engineering approach required to manage design information and ensure projects are delivered effectively, we would be keen to hear from you.
