Skills & Qualifications

• -BEng in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline.
• -Previous experience as a Design Engineer or in a comparable role.
• Proven experience using CAD software (SolidWorks experience advantageous).
• Ability to present confidently in front of stakeholders, managers, and customers.
• Strong computational and spatial ability.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Background working for an engineering, manufacturing, or distribution company.

Job Purpose

We are looking for outgoing individuals from an engineering background who are confident in customer-facing roles and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. The Design Engineer will take design authority for the development of mechanical and hydro-mechanical products and systems. This role involves both technical design and customer interaction, ensuring solutions meet project requirements while maintaining high standards of quality and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Hold design and checking sign-off authority for standard and custom products.
• Review and check work produced by other engineers.
• Act as a product champion for assigned product ranges.
• Proactively improve design methods, internal processes, and product lines.
• Contribute ideas for new products and solutions to strengthen the portfolio.
• Support commercial and aftersales activities including customer training, meetings, and technical support.
• Carry out feasibility studies, application checks, design reviews, and engineering calculations.
• Take responsibility for incoming technical enquiries, provide quotations, and manage associated costs.
• Liaise with customers, distributors, and suppliers regularly to meet project objectives.
• Resolve technical issues with customers, including occasional travel/site visits.
• Manage and improve part numbers/BOM systems.
• Coordinate with production, assembly, and testing areas to ensure documentation accuracy.
• Implement product change requests in line with engineering change procedures.
• Confirm system and product capabilities through feasibility studies and testing.
• Develop new products by analysing customer requirements and researching suitable manufacturing methods and materials.
• -Assure product quality through robust testing, validation, and compliance with regulations.
• Provide engineering information and support across the business as needed.
• Maintain accurate system and product databases.
• Keep up to date with industry developments through training, publications, and professional networks.
