Contract: Term Time Only (Full Time) ASAP Start
We are working with a Roman Catholic faith school based in Sutton, with a proud and distinguished history of educating pupils for nearly 100 years.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design and Technology Technician to join the school''s dedicated DT department. This role would suit an experienced and proactive technician, or someone with strong practical skills looking to build a career in a school-based support role.
About the Role:
Working alongside the Head of Department and teaching staff, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe and smooth day-to-day running of the DT workshops and classrooms. This includes preparing tools and materials for lessons, maintaining equipment, ensuring health and safety standards are met, and supporting both staff and students during practical work.
The role also involves supporting students with their coursework, helping with displays and exhibitions, and ensuring that all equipment is in excellent working condition. The ability to work independently, stay well-organised, and communicate effectively is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up materials, tools, and resources for lessons and coursework projects
- Maintain DT equipment and machinery (e.g. laser cutters, 3D printers, pillar drills) to ensure safety and functionality
- Support teachers and students during practical sessions, including giving technical advice and guidance
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines
- Keep workshops, preparation rooms and storerooms clean, organised, and well-stocked
- Carry out routine safety checks, maintenance, and minor repairs
- Monitor and manage stock levels, and assist with ordering supplies and managing deliveries
- Contribute to the preparation of displays, exhibitions, and DT department events
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Previous experience working as a DT Technician in a school or similar setting (preferred)
- Strong practical/technical skills and experience working with tools and equipment
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety procedures within a workshop environment
- Experience using and maintaining specialist equipment such as laser cutters or 3D printers
- Excellent communication and organisation skills
- A flexible, reliable, and proactive approach to supporting students and staff
- A commitment to promoting a safe, creative and supportive learning environment
