We are an exceptional specialist Orthopaedic department with a worldwide reputation for innovation and most importantly for excellent patient care and treatment.We currently have 5 operating theatres within our main theatre complex involving 2 theatres linked to our major trauma centre. We are currently developing a stand alone 2 theatre orthopaedic elective complex (NANOC).We have 37 orthopaedic consultants who specialist in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery, elective and trauma. We are currently one of the largest orthopaedic departments in the country with several connections to overseas programs, local initiatives and research projects.The orthopaedic theatre team consists of approximately 80 members of staff. This includes Registered Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners (ODP) who work in both surgery and anaesthetics, Nursing Associates (NA) and theatre support workers (TSW) all working competently to support the philosophy of multi-skilling and integration of theatre personnel.Main duties of the job

We have a unique opportunity to advertise a new position which will support our ongoing development and growth within the orthopaedic service.As a deputy team leader in orthopaedic practice you will be responsible for:Managing and coordinating the orthopaedic service.Supporting the Clinical Leader in providing expert clinical practice in our highly specialist orthopaedic service.Assisting with the design implementation and coordination of support and development programs for qualified practitioners, preceptors, varied learner and support workers within the specialist areas for the purpose of recruitment, retention and skills improvement.To provide expert clinical advice, guidance, leadership and managerial skills which will ensure the delivery of clinically effective service in line with both local and national development plans and Trust policies and proceduresThe role will require comprehensive leadership, effective management and coordination of the orthopaedic service in order to promote a patient centered approach to high quality health care whilst upholding and influencing professional and Trust values.About us

Supervise and maintain high standards of patient care by demonstrating and understanding of the NMC/HPCP conduct and local codes of practice.Assume autonomous responsibility of patients care once a handover from the anaesthetist and the surgical team has been given.Work in collaboration with the appropriate anaesthetists, relevant consultants and their multi-disciplinary care teams.On completion of competency skills book, be proficiant in the care of the unconscious patient with particular reference to basic and advanced airway management.Provide individualised assessment of the patient, enabling the named practitioner to continually plan, develop, implement and evaluate delivery of holistic care and, provide continual observation and monitoring of physiological parameters using non-invasive and invasive techniques.Person Specification

Qualifications

Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner on the appropriate part of the NMC/ Health Care Professions Council registerTo have completed the mentorship preparation programme or equivalent.Have or be working towards a health related degree.Skills

Significant experience at Band 5, of which some should be in a position relevant to the specialty.Highly credible Theatre Practitioner with a wide range of skills within Scope of Practice.Experience of managing and leading a clinical area.Skills

Able to work effectively under pressure in an unpredictable and demanding environment Polite, cheerful manner with mature and professional attitude.Effective role model, demonstrating NNUH''s PRIDE values of People focussed, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and ExcellenceDisclosure and Barring Service Check
