This is a senior leadership position within the Education and Standards Directorate. It is an important time of change for us. Our Directorate influences the future of medical education in the UK and delivers a challenging programme of regulatory work. You will report to the Medical Director / Director of Education and Standards and will lead the directorate with oversight of the appraisal arrangements for our Associates. You will be a critical part of the senior team for the directorate, collaborating with the Director, four Assistant Directors and the Head of Office for Education. You will provide clinical advice, strategic direction and effective leadership of the directorate and across the GMC and will have oversight of the appraisal arrangements for our Associates. You will undertake an ambassadorial role for the GMC, representing the organisation’s work with senior stakeholders and on public platforms, to promote the highest standards of medical education and training to deliver safe, high quality medical care for patients.Responsibilities
Provide clinical advice, strategic direction and effective leadership of the Education and Standards Directorate and across the GMC.Oversee the appraisal arrangements for our medically qualified employees and support revalidation processes.Represent the organisation’s work with senior stakeholders and on public platforms.Shape policy and strategy in medical education and regulation.Collaborate with the Director, four Assistant Directors and the Head of Office for Education.Requirements / Qualifications
On the UK medical register with a license to practise.Track record in medical education, policy implementation or regulation, and having held a senior clinical role in the NHS.Experience of appraisal and revalidation processes.Exceptional strategic thinker with strong and inclusive leadership, excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, political astuteness, and the ability to model positive behaviours in line with GMC values.Organisational values
