WokinghamThe Deputy Headteacher is expected to make a significant contribution to the core purpose of our school which is to ensure that all our pupils have a positive education experience and can achieve their personal best. The Deputy Headteacher, as part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), is expected to take a leading role in promoting high standards, expectations for all pupils and a positive team ethos within the school.The Deputy Headteacher will be responsible for successfully developing and establishing solid foundations for the school’s SEN offering including our outreach and inclusion programmes.To apply for pupils with SEN or a disability across the school, in line with the founding aims and ethos of the school, monitoring and reviewing the quality of provisionCollaborate and work with the Proprietors of the school to ensure that the outreach offer is in line with their vision and ambition.Create an outward-facing innovative and evidence-based SEN provision which works with other school and organisations – in a climate of mutual challenge – to champion best practice and inclusion for all pupils with SEN.The leadership, day-to-day management and high standards of behaviour for learning in the school, along with the implementation of policies, plans, targets, practices and procedures related to the system within the context of the vision, ethos, aims and goals of Odyssey Education Services.Assess and support SEN admissions and assessments, disseminating information to teachers and relevant staff and monitoring provision.Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of additional specialist support, suggesting areas and strategies for development and improvement.Develop and monitor systems of guidance and support designed to assist staff in maximising student participation and attainment.Raise awareness and understanding of SEN strategies across the school to enable teachers to be more effective in teaching students on the SEN register.Contribute to school self-evaluation, particularly with respect to provision for pupils with SEN or a disabilityEnsure the SEN policy is put into practice, and that the objectives of this policy are reflected in the school improvement planMaintain an up-to-date knowledge of national and local initiatives which may affect the school’s policy and practiceOperation of the SEN policy and co-ordination of provisionMaintain an accurate SEND register and provision mapProvide guidance to colleagues on teaching pupils with SEN or a disability, and advise on the graduated approach to SEN supportAdvise on the use of the school’s budget and other resources to meet pupils’ needs effectively, including staff deploymentBe aware of the provision in the local offerWork with early years providers, other schools, educational psychologists, health and social care professionals, and other external agenciesAnalyse assessment data for pupils with SEN or a disabilityImplement and lead intervention groups for pupils with SEN, and evaluate their effectivenessOther Areas of responsibilityTEACHING and LEARNINGEnsure that parents and pupils are well informed about curriculum attainment and progress and can understand targets for improvementTo lead on all annual reviews and EHCP requirements for children with EHCPs enrolled in the school (including the outreach programmes).To lead and develop the intervention team to support the delivery of specialist interventions and transitions of pupils from the outreach programme to the school and/or school refusers.To ensure all individual pupil progress and achievement is regularly recorded by teaching staffTo help ensure all groups of pupils make comparative progress within their achievement in all areasTo ensure intervention programmes are implemented and recorded for all pupils failing to make at least ‘good’ progress in Literacy and NumeracyTo ensure all staff apply individual pupil strategies in a consistent mannerTo support the Headteacher in ensuring Supervision and Appraisal of staff are maintained in timely fashionTo help support all young people to reach their maximum potential in their learningTo ensure all teaching staff update all data collection for all individual young peopleTo liaise with other multi-disciplinary professionals supporting the young personTo deliver and fulfill teaching responsibilities as required by the school and under the instructions of the HeadteacherIMPROVING ATTENDANCE and PUPIL ENGAGEMENTWork collaboratively with the school staff team and/or families to ensure good attendance and improved pupil behavioursActively work to remove individual pupil barriers to inclusion and attendanceTo monitor individual pupil attendance and work with pupils and families where school attendance is an issueTo target interventions towards students who are regularly late to school and struggle with punctuality from the SEND cohort.To identify and assess and develop plans to remove pupil’s individual barriers to learning, inclusion and attainmentRECORDING and REPORTINGEnsure all records and documentation are accurate and currentEnsure all records and documentation are delivered in a timely mannerEnsure that all documentation is available on requestCOMMUNICATION and RELATIONSHIPModel the good personal standards of behaviour and professional relationships standards with all others, internal and external, to the standard we wish to see in Odyssey House SchoolHighlight any emerging concerns about procedure, systems, and risk management that you are not able to address personally with the Headteacher or the School Director in their absenceEnsure positive and effective communication takes place between all parts of organisationEnsure all staff within all disciplines support effective operations and risk managementEnsures all staff compliance to all Odyssey Education Services employmentPolicies and Procedures including ‘Code of Conduct’ and ‘Equality and Diversity’ within daily operationsSAFEGUARDINGEnsures compliance to all Odyssey House School Safeguarding policies and proceduresEnsure all staff undertake all pupil behaviour interventions within a legal frameworkEnsure staff team operate within a legal frame work for all operational activitiesReports any concerns (including near misses) without delay to the HeadteacherMaintains a culture of vigilance within workforce in regards to SafeguardingWhere necessary represent Odyssey House School within LADO/ Police investigationsProvide necessary safeguarding reports, updates and audits to the Proprietors as requiredMEETINGSActively maintains good relationships with LA, families and other teamsTo attend meetings that are required to fulfil the roleEnsure that all minutes are recorded and stored safely on the school IT systems and relevant staff have access to theseEnsures that all representations of Odyssey House School are conducted in a professional manner at all timesNationally recognised SEND qualificationEvidence of further studyDSL QualificationProfessional development in preparation for a leadership roleExperience working in a school environment or other educational settingExperience working with children/young people with SEND and/or short-term difficulties (e.g. behavioural difficulties, mental health, physical disabilities)Evidence of further professional development which demonstrates an understanding of the current issues impacting on SEND provisionQualified Teacher StatusThe ability to lead and manage the SEND team effectively and efficiently and work with other professionals and agencies.Communication skills, oral, written to a variety of audiences.The ability to deliver well planned, organised and innovative lessons/interventionsProficiency
