Overview
An opportunity within NHS England’s Transformation Directorate for a Deputy Director of Patient Safety in the Digital Clinical Informatics team. The post holder will be an exceptional leader with strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to think independently, challenge appropriately and work effectively as part of a team. Deep knowledge of clinical governance and assurance mechanisms is required, and the role will lead on monitoring standards of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness and patient safety activity in liaison with multidisciplinary professionals and specialty leads within NHS England.Responsibilities
The role is responsible for the management of quality, risk and patient safety across digital clinical informatics products, platforms and services within NHS England, encompassing clinical effectiveness, risk and incident management, learning from incidents and compliance.Lead and deliver a range of patient safety, clinical governance and cyber activities across the Digital Clinical Informatics team.Take a key role in shaping the ongoing direction and strategy for patient safety across Digital Clinical Informatics, including clinical governance frameworks, clinical safety methodologies and compliance with safety standards.Lead the continual development of the clinical governance strategy, ensuring NHS England programmes and services advance their clinical governance and risk management development plans and systems.Act as the organisation’s clinical safety voice, networking and consulting with wider NHS and social care colleagues in support of the community delivery of relevant safety standards.Clinical Safety and Governance
Accountable for the Clinical Safety principle framework across all areas of NHS England, applied through:Expert understanding and knowledge of risk management methodology and its application in the clinical domain.Expert understanding and application of the standards DCB 0129 and DCB0160 within identified areas of responsibility.Strategic Purpose and Delivery

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.If successful at interview, an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) will be run in the Electronic Staff Record system (ESR) to support onboarding, including statutory and mandatory competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement.
