Harlow area - rural depot
Salary: £42,000 to £48,000 per annum
Term: Permanent, full-time
Monday to Friday, 7 am to 4 pm. 
Occasional Saturdays 8 am to 12 pm.
 
Our client is a wholesale supplier of specialist building materials, looking for a practical, experienced Depot Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day running of its rural depot near Harlow. You will bring the yard, drivers and administration team together, keeping deliveries on track and the site running safely and efficiently.
 
Working closely with the owner, you will organise people, make day-to-day decisions and resolve problems. This is a varied, hands-on role with scope to take increasing ownership of the operation.
 
The role of Depot Manager:
 
- Take responsibility for daily depot operations, organising yard staff and drivers and setting clear priorities.
- Plan delivery routes and schedules, adapting arrangements when priorities change and keeping everyone informed.
- Lead morning huddles with yard, driving and administration staff, ensuring work is understood and actions followed through.
- Get involved in yard work, loading and unloading when required, maintaining safe working practices.
- Coordinate the external health and safety contractor, site maintenance, facilities and utilities, including reviewing energy bills.
- Work with the owner on improvements and projects.
 
To be successful in the role of Depot Manager
 
- Experience managing a busy depot, yard, warehouse or similar practical operation.
- A track record of organising workloads, managing people and coordinating drivers and delivery routes.
- Clear, approachable communication skills and the ability to keep different teams working together.
- A practical, proactive approach, with sound judgement and confidence making day-to-day decisions.
- A willingness to work hands-on and a strong awareness of health and safety. Forklift experience is an advantage, but not essential.
- A full UK driving licence and your own transport are essential due to the rural location.
 
The Salary and package for the Depot Manager role:
 
Basic salary: £42,000 to £48,000 per annum
