Day Shift Maintenance Engineer

Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer – Harrow – 2-Shift Rotation
Some maintenance roles are all about firefighting. Running from one breakdown to the next, bodging a fix just long enough for the line to creak back into action, and then waiting for the next call on the radio.
That’s not what they do here.
This is about being the engineer who keeps the wheels turning properly. The one who spots the problem before it turns into downtime. The one who leaves kit running better than they found it. The one production silently thanks when the shift actually finishes on time.
It’s a multi-skilled role — but with a definite electrical bias. You’ll be fault-finding across a range of production kit, running preventative maintenance, commissioning new installs, and tweaking processes so things run smoother. You’ll also play your part in projects and improvements, not just firefighting.
The shifts? Monday to Friday, rotating between early (6am–2pm) and late (2pm–10pm). No nights. There’s some flexibility around the shift here and there. A business that’s more goal orientated rather than checking what hours your working. You’ll be needed depending on production plans, but never on your weekends.
What we’re looking for:
- A recognised mechanical/electrical qualification (NVQ, C&G, HNC, etc.)
- 3+ years’ experience in FMCG, food, or process manufacturing
- Someone who’s comfortable with both electrical and mechanical tasks (but electrical bias is ideal)
- A calm, methodical engineer who can also think on their feet when things go south
- Experience with Lean/5S, health & safety, and continuous improvement is a nice bonus
- Most importantly, someone who takes pride in doing the job properly — not just patching things up
What you’ll be doing day-to-day:
- Responding quickly to breakdowns and getting to the root cause
- Carrying out preventative maintenance so breakdowns happen less often
- Supporting installations and small projects from start to finish
- Keeping records up to date, and making sure everything is safe, compliant, and audit-ready
- Working closely with production to prioritise jobs when the inevitable happens and two things break at once
You won’t be managing people, but you will be part of a small team where communication is key. Production will look to you when things stop, and you’ll need to decide what gets tackled first. It’s busy, but it’s the good kind of busy.
If you’re an engineer who likes variety, enjoys being trusted to get on with it, and wants a role where your skills are genuinely valued, then this could be a strong next move.
