OverviewWe have a brand-new opportunity for a Data Product Lead (or Head of Data Products, TBC) to join our Digital team, part of our Product and Innovation business unit. It''s an exciting time to join our team. We''re on a mission to transform the way the industry delivers and maintains urban environments that work for people and planet, starting with our own business, and we''re starting to build momentum.

We''ve developed a bespoke platform called Origin, designed to enable engineers and consultants to make smarter decisions using data and insights. This means gathering, using and reusing both project design data and real-world building performance data from start to finish. This is growing to become a full ecosystem of products and platforms, and as the scope grows, we''ve reached the point at which we need someone to lead on the product strategy and deliver data-led solutions chiefly to our internal users and occasionally external clients and market engagement.

The Digital team is informally split into a couple of groups. The largest team is oriented towards software development and focuses on developing our Origin ecosystem, a suite of data-driven products including:

Origin Design: A better way to manage design input and output data, integrated with industry authoring tools and our own tools. A single location for design information from which macro insights can be gleaned to inform future design.

Origin Operations: Our Fabric-based platform enabling ingestion, cleaning, analysis and presentation of data to create forecasting models and optimise future building design.

Service design: 2D authoring tools to manage early-stage layouts of services (currently horizontal distribution, with future vertical distribution and plant design).

Kaleidoscope: A machine-learning tool to accelerate early-stage design analysis.

SAM (Sustainability Analytical Model): A toolset for rapidly creating simulation models and outputs.

The Data team focuses on data science solutions and lightweight products that evolve our consulting capability with key clients, leading with data science. These include:

Cascade: A data tool for prioritising and managing backlogs of building improvements and maintenance by factors such as cost, risk and carbon impact.

Healthcare Comparison: A tool for benchmarking NHS sites across sustainability measures.

University Benchmarking: A tool for benchmarking UK universities.

The team also develops visualisations in PowerBI, provides leadership for the Data Academy and supports work-winning activities through early client engagement, working with the Digital Advisory team, part of our client-facing Advisory and Advocacy business unit.

Responsibilities

Orchestrate portfolio-level prioritisation of our data products and features and provide leadership to our team of product owners.

Lead the Data team, owning their initiatives and mentoring and developing the individuals in that team.

Advocate for growth in data skills and their application.

In time, work with Digital Advisory to develop data science-led initiatives and engage clients directly.

What you’ll need to be successful

Demonstrable experience working either as a product lead or in a related role, with a track record delivering on a variety of complex data-driven projects.

Experience working with statistical models and algorithms.

Ability to research, horizon-scan and validate new ideas and technologies.

Experience leading technical teams and optimising their delivery.

Self-awareness, an open mind, and a spirit of generosity.

Experience supporting others to develop knowledge, skills, and confidence.

Desirable skills / experience

Agile product management / being part of a development team that adheres to Agile principles.
