Data Platform Team Lead

Data Platform Team Lead
Location: London (Hybrid)
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000
Be the architect of a data platform that powers the future of property management and build the data backbone of a fast-scaling PropTech.
We’re a fast-growing, investor-backed PropTech company that’s transforming traditional letting agencies into a fully automated, AI-enabled platform. By combining acquisitions with cutting-edge tech, we’re scaling at speed - and our data infrastructure is at the heart of it all.
We’re looking for a Data Platform Team Lead to own, design, and scale our entire data function. You’ll start as the second hire in the team, soon leading two engineers, and spending around 40–50% of your time hands-on coding, designing systems, and solving complex data problems.
This role is mission-critical - your work will touch every area of the business, from onboarding acquired agencies to enabling instant insights across operations, finance, and product.
What You’ll Do
- CRM Integration & Data Ingestion
- Build custom extraction tools for different real estate CRM systems
- Reverse-engineer or integrate via APIs/databases to pull leases, landlord/tenant data, and financial records
- Create modular, maintainable ingestion services that make onboarding new agencies a one-click process
- Data Architecture, Optimisation & Compliance
- Design a unified, scalable data architecture and schema
- Tune database performance with indexing, partitioning, clustering, and configuration optimisation
- Ensure full GDPR and UK Data Protection compliance: data masking, consent management, retention policies
- Data Infrastructure, Analytics & Ops Automation
- Build the central analytics platform for instant access to business insights
- Turn DS-provided notebooks and logic into production-ready pipelines
- Create robust ETL/ELT pipelines for varied sources (CRMs, comms tools, public reviews, etc.)
- Develop and optimise our BigQuery data warehouse
- Set up governance: lineage, quality checks, cost monitoring
- Choose the right GCP tools for performance, cost, and maintainability balance
You’ll Succeed If You Have…
- 5+ years in data engineering (with 1–2 years in a leadership role)
- Experience in high-scale environments — you know how processes work when they’re 100x bigger
- Strong Python and modern data tooling expertise
- Proven track record with production ETL pipelines
- Hands-on Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery) skills
- Ability to mentor, grow, and manage a small engineering team
- Strong system design and pragmatic decision-making skills
Why This Role Is a Game-Changer
- High Impact – You’ll define and own the data platform powering a rapidly scaling business
- Leadership + Hands-On Balance – Stay close to the tech while growing a high-performing team
- Greenfield Opportunities – Build processes and infrastructure from scratch, the right way
- Fast-Growth Culture – Move quickly, innovate constantly, and see your work in production fast
