Customs Coordinator - Freight Forwarding - Southampton - £35,000 DOE
About the Company
Our client is an established international logistics and freight forwarding business providing a comprehensive range of freight forwarding, customs, warehousing, transport, and supply chain services to a diverse customer base.
As a Customs Coordinator, you will coordinate day to day import, warehousing, customs, transport, and customer-related activities, ensuring consignments are processed accurately and efficiently.
You will work closely with customers, overseas offices, origin partners, transport teams, and internal departments, taking ownership of shipments and ensuring all relevant operational and customs requirements are met.

- Previous experience in freight forwarding, logistics, imports, customs, or warehousing.
- Confident using logistics systems, ideally CargoWise.
- Good understanding of import, customs, transport, and warehouse processes.
- Strong communication, customer service, and organisational skills.
- Good attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Commercially aware with good problem-solving skills.
- Proactive, reliable, and able to work independently and under pressure.
- Flexible approach to working hours and overtime when required.
- Knowledge of customs procedures including CFSP, Customs Warehousing, Bonds, T1s, and NCTS.
- Experience with CDS, CNS, Destin8, ASM, or Ricardo.
- Understanding of Bills of Lading and Incoterms.
- Experience with international freight forwarding and supply chains.
- Knowledge of sailing schedules and feeder vessel operations.
- Previous experience with commercial, financial, and invoicing processes within logistics.
- Coordinate daily import, customs, warehousing, and transport activities.
- Manage shipment documentation and ensure accurate system updates.
- Monitor customs entries, deadlines, ETAs, and uncleared/unbooked shipments.
- Arrange deliveries and liaise with customers, overseas offices, and transport teams.
- Raise accurate invoices and ensure job files and profitability are maintained.
- Resolve customer queries and complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Ensure customs and operational procedures are followed correctly.
- Identify and resolve potential delays or service issues proactively.
- Support colleagues, training, and process improvement when required.
- Maintain a high level of customer service, accuracy, and operational efficiency.
