Main Purpose of the Customs Clearance Coordinator Role:

As a Customs Clearance Coordinator, you will join the Operations team in Ipswich/Felixstowe. Working as part of a busy customs team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and compliant movement of goods into and out of the UK.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Customs Clearance Coordinator:

  • Prepare and process import and export customs declarations using industry-standard customs systems.
  • Review and extract information from commercial invoices, packing lists, and supporting documentation to complete customs entries accurately.
  • Liaise with customers, importers, customs authorities, port health officials, and internal operational teams to obtain required information and resolve customs-related queries.
  • Ensure all customs declarations are completed accurately, compliantly, and within agreed service levels.
  • Assist clients with customs classification and tariff-related enquiries.
  • Process documentation including T-documents, EUR1 certificates, Certificates of Origin, CHEDs, COIs, and other customs and cargo control documentation.
  • Support duty refund applications, tariff reclassifications, and customs appeals where required.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK customs regulations, legislation, and procedural changes.
  • Provide guidance to customers on import restrictions, tariff systems, licensing requirements, and customs compliance matters.
  • Use customs and logistics software including CDS, CNS, Destin8, Sequoia, Descartes, NCTS, NES, and other relevant systems.
  • Ensure the highest standards of data accuracy and customs compliance across all entries.

To be Considered:

  • Excellent attention to detail with strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office applications and learning new systems quickly.
  • Ability to consistently complete high volumes of customs entries while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
  • Previous experience within a customs clearance, freight forwarding, or international logistics environment.
  • Knowledge of HMRC import and export customs requirements.
  • Experience using customs systems such as CDS, CHIEF, NCTS, and NES. Understanding of ETSF warehouse processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically when resolving complex customs issues.
  • Customer-focused approach with both internal and external stakeholders.
