Must be a qualified Social Worker for 5+ years and registered with Social Work England.Recent experience of working in a busy, fast-paced duty and assessment service is desirable.The worker is expected to be office-based at least 2 times per week. During the team’s duty week, this will be 5 consecutive work days. Duty week runs from Thursday to Wednesday across 2 weeks.
Knowledge, including educational qualifications:
Knowledge of childcare legislation, statutory guidance, and the London Child Protection Procedures.
Knowledge and understanding of child development, parenting capacity, environmental factors, and risk and protective factors.
Knowledge of current issues in children’s social work practice, especially regarding child protection and intervention planning.
Knowledge of roles and responsibilities of key children’s agencies.
Knowledge of best practices for assessment and care planning, including Southwark’s systemic practices framework.
Experience:
Experience of direct social work with children and families, including current registration with Social Work England.
Experience of working effectively as part of a team and managing personal workload.
Experience in preparing reports and presenting them in formal settings like court proceedings or panels.
Experience working in an anti-discriminatory manner, addressing issues of racism, inequality, and injustice.
Aptitudes, Skills and Competencies:
Ability to analyze complex information and produce clear, high-quality reports.
Commitment to principles of transparency, accountability, and family-centered, strengths-based practice.
Ability to develop professional relationships with children and families.
Ability to manage workload and be accountable.
Computer literacy skills sufficient for case management.
