Credit Controller

We''re working with a successful and growing business looking for an experienced Credit Controller to take ownership of outstanding debt, build strong relationships with councils and keep cash flowing in the right direction.

What''s the role all about?

This isn''t just about sending statements and chasing overdue invoices. You''ll play a key role in managing the company''s debtor ledger, with a particular focus on collecting outstanding payments from councils, local authorities and other public sector organisations.

You''ll need to be comfortable navigating complex payment processes, dealing with multiple stakeholders and understanding why public sector invoices can sometimes take longer than expected to settle. More importantly, you''ll know when to be diplomatic, when to be persistent and how to get results without damaging valuable customer relationships.

Your responsibilities will include:

Managing and reducing aged debt across a portfolio of customer accounts.

Proactively chasing outstanding invoices with councils and local authorities.

Investigating payment delays, resolving invoice queries and addressing discrepancies.

Building effective working relationships with finance teams and accounts payable departments.

Reconciling customer accounts and allocating payments accurately.

Monitoring credit limits, identifying potential risks and escalating problem accounts.

Producing regular aged debt reports and providing updates on collection performance.

Working closely with internal finance and operational teams to resolve issues quickly.

What are we looking for?

You''ll already have experience in a credit control role, ideally with demonstrable success collecting debt from councils, local authorities or wider public sector organisations.

You''ll be an excellent communicator, highly organised and resilient enough to keep chasing when payments don''t arrive as expected. You''ll also have a keen eye for detail, strong reconciliation skills and the confidence to manage difficult conversations professionally.
