The Opportunity
Wolviston Management Services are delighted to be supporting our client in the recruitment of an experienced Crane Service Manager to lead their Service Engineering Division based in Teesside.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering or service professional to take ownership of a busy service operation within the crane, lifting equipment and industrial engineering sector.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the day-to-day performance of the service division, managing and coordinating engineers, overseeing maintenance and breakdown activities, developing strong customer relationships and ensuring the highest standards of safety, service delivery and commercial performance.
This is a varied leadership position ideally suited to someone who combines strong engineering knowledge with excellent organisational, commercial and people-management skills.
 
The Role
As Crane Service Manager, you will:

• Lead, plan and coordinate the daily activities of the Service Engineering Division.
• Manage engineer workloads, schedules and resources to ensure efficient service delivery.
• Coordinate planned maintenance, inspections, repairs and servicing of cranes and lifting equipment.
• Ensure customer breakdowns and emergency call-outs are managed quickly and effectively.
• Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and service delivery.
• Act as a key point of contact for customers, developing strong and lasting client relationships.
• Provide technical support and practical solutions to customer requirements.
• Prepare quotations, estimates and service costings.
• Manage departmental budgets, labour utilisation, costs and overall financial performance.
• Oversee invoicing and ensure accurate and timely billing.
• Champion a strong health and safety culture across the service operation.
• Ensure engineering activities comply with company procedures, statutory requirements and industry regulations.
• Prepare and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and ensure safe systems of work are maintained.
• Manage job cards, service records and associated compliance documentation.
• Coordinate customer equipment maintenance schedules.
• Oversee the upkeep of company vehicles, lifting equipment and engineering tools.
• Support and drive continuous improvement across the service function.

About You
We are looking for an experienced engineering professional who can combine technical knowledge with strong operational leadership.
You will ideally have:

• Previous experience as a Service Manager, Engineering Manager, Crane Manager, Plant Manager or within a similar engineering leadership position.
• An Electrical or Mechanical HNC, or equivalent engineering qualification.
• Strong knowledge of cranes, lifting equipment, industrial maintenance or engineering services.
• Proven experience managing and developing engineers or technical teams.
• Strong planning, organisational and resource-management skills.
• Experience managing budgets, costs and operational performance.
• A commercially aware and customer-focused approach.
• Good knowledge of health and safety legislation and engineering best practice.
• Experience preparing RAMS and implementing safe systems of work.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced service environment.
• Competency with service management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
