Crane Service Engineer - Electrical Bias
Crane Service Engineer - Electrical Bias
Location: Teesside
The Opportunity
Wolviston Management Services are pleased to be supporting our client in the recruitment of an experienced Crane Service Engineer to join their established team on Teesside.
This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically biased, multi-skilled engineer looking for a varied and hands-on position working across a wide range of industrial customer sites.
You will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of overhead cranes and lifting equipment, combining strong electrical fault-finding capabilities with mechanical knowledge to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable and compliant.
The Role
As Crane Service Engineer, you will work across a broad range of lifting equipment including overhead cranes, job cranes, runway systems, hoists, light cranes and mobile gantries.
A key part of the position will involve diagnosing and resolving electrical and mechanical faults, often working independently and without detailed electrical drawings. You''ll work with equipment including motors, inverters, drives, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics and control panels.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting, servicing, maintaining and repairing overhead cranes and lifting equipment.
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and responding to breakdowns.
- Diagnosing complex electrical and mechanical faults.
- Fault finding across motors, inverters, drives and three-phase electrical systems.
- Working with gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics and associated mechanical equipment.
- Completing repairs, adjustments and component replacements.
- Inspecting lifting equipment and identifying potential safety or compliance issues.
- Working safely at height and within challenging industrial environments.
- Completing accurate service records and compliance documentation.
- Liaising directly with customers to explain completed work and recommend safety or operational improvements.
- Supporting basic welding and fabrication activities where required.
We''re looking for a technically capable engineer with a strong electro-mechanical background and electrical bias, who is confident working independently and delivering a high standard of service to customers.
Ideally, you will have:
- A minimum of 3 years experience within cranes, lifting equipment, heavy industry or a related electro-mechanical engineering environment.
- A time-served electrical/electro-mechanical background would be preferred.
- Strong electrical fault-finding capabilities, including the confidence to diagnose faults without drawings.
- Experience working with three-phase electrical systems.
- Knowledge of motors, inverters, drives and gearboxes.
- Experience with cranes, hoists or associated lifting equipment would be highly advantageous.
- Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical lifting systems.
- Confidence working safely at height.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing abilities.
- A full UK Driving Licence.
Why Apply?
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys fault finding, problem solving and hands-on engineering rather than being based in the same environment every day.
You''ll join an experienced engineering team, working across varied customer sites and equipment while playing an important role in maintaining the safety, reliability and performance of critical lifting assets.
If you have a strong electrical background combined with mechanical knowledge and experience within cranes, lifting equipment or heavy industry, we''d like to hear from you.
Apply today or contact Wolviston Management Services for a confidential discussion about the opportunity.
