Swap the Desk for the Outdoors: Put Your Real-World Skills to Work

Are you a youth worker, sports coach, ex-forces mentor, activity instructor, or hands-on professional looking to transition into education without needing a formal teaching degree?

We are seeking a proactive, grounded, and energetic Outdoor Cover Supervisor / Unqualified Teacher to join a school setting in Blackpool.

If you are great at connecting with young people, keeping them engaged, and prefer practical, active learning over sitting behind a desk all day, your skills are directly transferable here.

The Role

  • Lead & Support Outside the Classroom: Supervise small groups of pupils across outdoor activities, team challenges, practical tasks, and active sessions, as well as supervising scheduled indoor lessons when required.

  • Deliver Pre-Planned Work: Step in confidently to deliver lesson outlines left by teaching staff-no lesson planning or endless marking required.

  • Positive Behaviour Mentoring: Act as a positive, consistent role model. Use de-escalation, firm boundaries, and strong rapport to keep vulnerable or disengaged learners calm, safe, and focused.

  • Hands-on Teamwork: Work closely with class teachers, pastoral leads, and support assistants to ensure every student feels supported and understood.

Who We Are Looking For (Transferable Skills Welcome)

You do not need a formal teaching qualification (QTS). We are looking for character, presence, and practical experience:

  • Relevant Experience: Background in Youth Work, Sports Coaching, Outdoor Pursuit Centres, Residential Care, Military/Services, or Alternative Education.

  • Resilient & Adaptable Mindset: Happy working outside in all weather conditions with an active, energetic approach.

  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: A natural ability to build trust and authority with teenagers and young people who may find traditional classrooms challenging.

  • Calm Under Pressure: Confident handling challenging moments with patience, empathy, and professional de-escalation techniques.

  • Compliance: Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service (or willing to process one immediately) plus checkable references covering the last 2 years.

What We Offer

  • Pay: 500 per week (weekly pay via PAYE).

  • Predictable Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm-evenings and weekends are completely your own.

  • Term Time Only: Enjoy regular school holidays off.

  • Step Into Teaching: Build direct classroom and educational experience with ongoing support and professional development.

  • Convenient Location: Accessible across Blackpool, the Fylde Coast, Wyre, and Preston corridors.
