About the Role
A Counterbalance Forklift Driver is sought for a builders merchant in Gloucester, on a full-time temp to perm basis paying £12.75 per hour. Hours run Monday to Thursday 07:00–16:30 and Friday 07:00–16:00. The successful applicant will operate a counterbalance truck, receive and check deliveries from suppliers and other branches, store stock accurately in warehouse and yard positions, and prepare customer orders. Serving trade and retail customers is central, with collections treated as a priority each shift. Applicants must hold a valid counterbalance licence, work well within a small crew, manage competing duties, and demonstrate sound customer service. Prior experience in a merchant or similar setting is preferred.

Pertemps Gloucester are recruiting for an experienced Counterbalance Forklift Driver to join a busy builders merchant environment in Gloucester on a temp to perm basis. This is a hands on role where you'll be working within a small team and will need to be comfortable juggling several tasks at once. Customer service is a key part of the role, as customer collections are a priority throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operating a Counterbalance Forklift Truck
- Receiving and checking deliveries from suppliers, other branches and customer returns
- Accurately storing stock in the correct warehouse and yard locations
- Preparing customer orders and loading vehicles
- Assisting customers with collections and returns
- Loading and unloading branch vehicles, hauliers and customer vehicles
- Maintaining accurate paperwork and reporting stock discrepancies or damages
- Carrying out stock checks and supporting stocktaking activities
- Performing daily FLT checks and ensuring equipment remains safe and operational
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment
- Building positive relationships with customers and colleagues
- Valid Counterbalance Forklift Licence
- Previous yard, warehouse, builders merchant or similar experience
- Good attention to detail when checking deliveries and stock
- Comfortable with manual handling and physically demanding work
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Basic maths skills and confidence working with quantities, measurements and order calculations
- Strong housekeeping standards and pride in maintaining the yard and stock
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking attitude
- Good communication and customer service skills
