Job Title: Cost Manager
Location: Mansfield / Hybrid (2 days/week on site)
Contract Duration: until end of Jan 2027
Daily Rate: £348/day (Umbrella)
IR35 Status: Inside IR35

The Role:

• Lead the development of cost estimates and budgets for complex construction projects, providing expert commercial support to Programme and Project Managers.
• Monitor project costs and maintain robust financial plans, ensuring budgets remain controlled and expenditure stays within agreed tolerances.
• Work closely with risk management teams to ensure project risks are accurately costed, appropriate contingency allowances are applied, and cost-related issues are resolved promptly.
• Provide commercial guidance on Early Warnings and Compensation Events (CEs) throughout the project lifecycle, helping to mitigate financial risk and support informed decision-making.
• Support Project Managers in maintaining cost control across all phases of delivery, including reactive and remedial works where urgent action is required.
• Deliver accurate forecasting, reporting, and cost analysis to support successful project outcomes and value for money.

Experience Required:

• Proven experience in developing construction project cost estimates and budgets.
• Strong ability to analyse and evaluate tender submissions, pricing schedules, and commercial proposals.
• Experience producing monthly cost forecasts and comparing project performance against contractor forecasts.
• Working knowledge of NEC contracts, including the assessment and management of Compensation Events (CEs).
• Experience reviewing and challenging Applications for Payment (AFPs), ensuring accuracy and contractual compliance.
• Ability to analyse cost data from completed projects and apply lessons learned to future projects.
• Demonstrable experience in construction project delivery, cost estimation, and Quantity Surveying (QS).
• Strong understanding of commercial management principles, cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting within a construction environment.
