Corporate Legal Counsel

Looking to take your legal career in-house and gain exposure to the commercial decisions shaping a fast-moving, international business?

CPS Group UK are delighted to be working with a global FinTech organisation to hire a commercially minded Corporate Counsel to join its legal team on an initial six-month contract, based in London. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior lawyer or senior paralegal to broaden their experience, work closely with senior legal colleagues and partner with stakeholders across the business on a diverse range of legal and commercial matters.

Supporting the UK and Ireland markets, you''ll gain exposure to everything from complaints, drafting, commercial negotiations and strategic projects to disputes, corporate governance and regulatory matters. You''ll be part of a collaborative, cross-functional environment where practical advice, commercial judgement and a proactive approach are valued.

The role

This is a genuinely broad in-house opportunity, ideal for a lawyer who enjoys variety, wants to understand how a business operates and is keen to develop their ability to deliver pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Commercial contracts: Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of customer, supplier, technology, partner and intra-group agreements.
* Business partnering: Providing practical, day-to-day legal advice to internal stakeholders, helping the business navigate legal issues while balancing commercial objectives and risk.
* Disputes and contentious matters: Supporting claims, litigation, debt recovery, insolvency and enforcement-related matters as required.
* Projects and product support: Working alongside commercial, product, risk, compliance, tax, finance and operations teams on business initiatives and strategic projects.
* Regulatory and risk matters: Collaborating with legal, compliance, data privacy and risk colleagues to support compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
* Corporate governance: Assisting with board and committee matters, entity management, corporate approvals, filings and maintenance of corporate records.
* Legal operations: Contributing to legal research, horizon scanning, internal briefings and the development of templates, playbooks and processes that help the legal team work efficiently.

Required Skills & Experience

We''re keen to speak with a practical, commercially aware lawyer who is comfortable working across a range of legal matters and is motivated by the opportunity to gain broad in-house exposure.

You''ll ideally have:

* 0-3 years'' post-qualification experience (PQE) as a qualified lawyer / senior paralegal
* Experience drafting and reviewing commercial contracts, with the confidence to support negotiations.
* Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate legal issues into clear, actionable advice.
* A proactive, organised and detail-oriented approach, with the confidence to work with stakeholders across different functions.
* A commercial mindset and an appreciation of how legal advice supports business objectives while managing risk.
* A willingness to learn, take ownership of tasks and escalate complex or high-risk matters appropriately.
Experience in financial services, fintech or another regulated commercial environment would be advantageous, as would previous in-house experience, but the breadth of the role offers scope for a junior lawyer with the right foundations and attitude to develop.
Why consider this opportunity?
* Broad in-house exposure: Build experience across commercial, corporate, contentious and project-related work.
* Direct stakeholder engagement: Work closely with senior lawyers and teams across the business.
* A fast-paced international environment: Gain insight into the legal and commercial considerations of a global payments business.
* Professional development: Develop your commercial judgement and in-house skill set in a collaborative legal team.

If you''re a junior lawyer looking for a varied in-house opportunity where you can broaden your experience, work closely with the business and make a tangible contribution, we''d love to hear from you.
