Controls Engineer
Role SummaryLead the design, programming, and commissioning of bespoke automated systems for the dairy/food sector. Combine electrical design, PLC/HMI development, and multi-discipline engineering (mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic) to deliver turnkey solutions.Core ResponsibilitiesElectrical design: SLDs, panel layouts, IO schedules, compliance with BS 7671, UKCA/CE, ATEX.Automation: PLC/HMI programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, BandR), SCADA, industrial networks, instrumentation integration.Project delivery: Full lifecycle from concept to commissioning, FAT/SAT, risk assessments, UKCA/CE marking.Support: Troubleshooting, upgrades, retrofits, training site engineers.Qualifications6+ years in controls/automation within food, beverage, FMCG, or pharma.HNC/HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.18th Edition preferred.Strong background in bespoke automated machinery.SkillsPLC/HMI/SCADA programming.Electrical panel design and functional safety.CAD tools (EPLAN, AutoCAD, SolidWorks).Pneumatics and hydraulics troubleshooting.Compliance documentation (UKCA/CE, PUWER, SIL/PL).AttributesAnalytical, detail-oriented, safety-driven.Strong communicator, independent yet collaborative.Comfortable in hygienic production environments.UK driving licence.BenefitsCompetitive salary and package.RandD environment with scope to innovate.Training and development opportunities.Exposure to both new build and field projects.
