Controls Engineer - Day Shift Lydney £45,000 - £55,000 + Benefits Day Shift Permanent A well-established manufacturing business in Lydney, Gloucestershire is seeking a Controls Engineer to join their engineering team on a day shift basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced automation or controls specialist who enjoys working across projects, upgrades, and continuous improvement within a modern industrial environment. The Role As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and support of PLC-controlled systems across the site. You''ll work on projects from concept through to commissioning while also supporting fault-finding, upgrades, and safety improvements to keep production running efficiently and safely. Key Responsibilities Specify, program, modify and test PLC systems (Siemens TIA Portal / Step7, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff). Develop and maintain HMI/SCADA systems, data acquisition, alarms, diagnostics, and performance dashboards. Design and implement functional safety architectures including safety PLCs, light curtains, scanners/radar, and machine interlocks. Produce safety documentation including risk assessments, Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS), validation plans, and proof testing aligned with ISO 13849 / IEC 62061. Troubleshoot complex faults across PLC, electrical systems, sensors, and communications networks.
