Site/Contracts ManagerShropshire, office based with regular site visits across a twenty mile radius of Market Drayton
The roleYou will take ownership of multiple small to medium residential projects, including extensions, refurbishments, new build, and occasional Grade II listed works. The role is primarily office based with planned visits to live sites. You will plan ahead, keep programmes tight, coordinate trades and suppliers, and be the client facing lead who keeps quality, safety, and cost on track.
Key responsibilities
Plan and manage short and medium term programmes, issue weekly lookaheads, and keep milestones on track
Read drawings and specifications, interpret scope, and brief the team clearly
Prepare RAMS, carry out risk assessments, manage permits, and maintain HSE compliance
Order materials and plant in advance, manage supplier lead times, and control costs against budgets
Coordinate subcontractors and in house trades, schedule daily and weekly tasks, and inspect quality
Liaise with clients, conservation officers, architects, engineers, and ecologists where required
Maintain site records, progress photos, and reports, and manage change and variations with support from the QS
Support simple pricing and small works estimating when needed, and close out handover and defects
Visit multiple sites as required during the week, typically within twenty miles of Market Drayton
Lead face to face meetings and interviews when bringing new trades into the supply chain

Listed buildings with heritage constraints on some projects, including ecology considerations such as bat surveys, bat licences, and method statements appropriate to historic fabric
Live occupied settings that require careful planning, noise and dust control, and tidy working practices
Essentials
Proven track record as a Site Manager or Contracts Manager running multiple jobs concurrently
Strong planning and programming skills, confident with MS Project or similar
SMSTS and First Aid, CSCS card, temporary works awareness is beneficial
Excellent client communication and interpersonal skills, calm, proactive, and organised
Ability to prepare RAMS, manage permits, and uphold HSE standards
Full UK driving licence
Comfortable being mostly office based, with planned site visits across the local area
Nice to have
Experience on Grade I or Grade II listed buildings, or a genuine interest in heritage methods and materials, for example lime mortars and traditional joinery
Joinery or general building background that helps with sequencing and quality checks
Experience coordinating ecology inputs, for example bat surveys and method statements
Confidence supporting small works pricing and basic take offs alongside the QS

Permanent salary guide fifty thousand to sixty thousand, dependent on experience
CIS engagement available if preferred, day rate by agreement
Use of a company van or truck can be provided for the right person, typically after a successful probation
