Role: Consultant – Water QualityLocation: Bristol (hybrid working)Salary range: £28,000 - £36,000 per annum plus benefitsOur vision is to create a safe and sustainable world. The Water and Environment practice of Ricardo Energy and Environment offers a comprehensive range of specialist services within the environmental consultancy sector. We work with clients across the public and private sectors, including the European Commission, government, water companies and developers. We are looking for a consultant to join our Water team to support novel and cutting-edge projects. We provide environmental monitoring and assessment support to water companies, airports, developers and other organisations where high-quality data capture and analysis inform environmental assessments.The successful candidate will join our team working across projects in water, ecology and environmental impact assessment, with opportunities to collaborate with other parts of the business to develop a portfolio of water-related projects that complement other environmental assessments.
Key Responsibilities
Fieldwork lead for water quality surveys in surface water and groundwater environmentsData collection through site surveys and monitoring programmesData processing, analysis, interpretation and visualisation using Excel and GISDesk studies, literature reviews, option appraisals, impact assessment and reportingMonitoring programme coordination, including laboratory suppliers and resource managementProject management
Essential
Key competencies and experience
Bachelors (2.1 or above) and ideally a postgraduate degree in a relevant subjectUnderstanding of the UK water industry – at least 2 yearsExtensive experience using Excel and GIS packages (such as ArcGIS and QGIS)Experience of reviewing and interpreting datasets with strong analytical skillsEffective report writing skillsAbility to fault find and solve problems in challenging environmentsEffective time management skillsWillingness to learn from contributing to a broad range of fieldwork and office-based tasksA full UK driver’s licence
Advantageous
Experience leading survey teams in challenging river and estuarine environmentsExperience of airside work at UK airportsWater safety trainingGIS skillsPowerboat licence
